W. D. Bcckly, who has been taking treat
ment at the Danville Sanitarium, N. Y., has
returned home greatly improved in health.
James C. Slerner of Philadelphia, has
been in town for several days. He was rail

Mrs. Freas Brown, who has been spend
ing considerable time in the South has re
turned. She reports having had a very
pleasant trip,
Mrs. J. S. and Miss Roys will stop off
Friday for a few days visit here with
J. E. Roys, jeweler. They are on their
way to their home at Lyons, N. Y., from
Palm Beach, Fla., where they have leen
spending the winter. .
Hon. James B. Reilly, whose bond w ith
James A. O'Reilly, of Reading, and Louis
Sloffregen, of Pottsville, as sureties, was ap
proved, took the oath of office before Judge
Butler, of the United States District Court
last week. He entered upon his duties last
Saturday, April 4.

The attention of the town author
ities is called to the condition of many
of the board walks in our town. They
are in , a dangerous condition, and
immediate steps should be taken to
have them made safe for pedestrians.

William Kramer held the lucky
number which drew the watch at
Lowenberg's clothing store last Satur
day. He says he now has one too

J. N. Webb is building a house at
the corner of Eighth and Catharine
Streets. During the past season he
has built quite a number all ol which
have been sold at cood prices. Mr.
Webb is one of the hustling men of
this place.
A large delegation of the members
ot Washington Camp No. 540 I'. O.
S. of A., of Catawissa visited the
camp at this place last Thursday
night. No. 540 is composed of the
pest men ot that place, ana tneir
camp is rapidly forging to the front.
The Central Hotel has been refurn
ished, and is now open for the recep.
tion of guests.
The corner of Market and Third
streets is a busy place these days. The
work of demolishing the old church is
completed. A gang of men under the
direction of'Wm. Ferguson is busy
clearing up the rubbish, ten men are
cutting stone and masons are at work.
W. O. Holmes has moved his
Plumbing establishment to the rooms
formerly occupied by Eshleman &
Wolf in the Opera House. If you
are in need of any work in his line
you will find it to your advantage to
give him a call. Estimates cheerfully
given.
The work of placing the metallic
cases in the Register and Recorder's
office has been completed. The
officials of the office are pleased with
the job, and it assists them greatly in
the transaction of the business of the
office. The members of the bar are
equally pleased as they are now able
to readily find the records of the
office.

The ladies of the Lutheran Church
will give a shad supper in Chrisman's
restaurant, next to Jacobs Bakery, on
Friday evening of this week. 1 here
will be fried shad, broiled shad, roast
ed shad, Delmonico shad and every
other kind ot preparation to which
this choicest of the fish tribe can be
subjected, and all the other delicacies
that go to make a delicious fish sup
per. Tacobs superb ice cream will
be furnished in three flavors and large
dishes. Everybody knows the profi
ciency of the Lutheran ladies in the
art of cookery and you never sat
down to a better supper than the one
to be furnished Friday evening from
5 to 10 o clock.
