THE COLUMBIAN. BLOOMSBURG, PA. LOST LETTERS. Many Mlidireclod rVilisivei Postofflces. Get Into Every day about o.oco letters r.re received at the New Yoik postoffice addressed incorrectly. As a result Tostnusler Dajton will disti ihute cards telling people how to send mail matter, Here are some of the sug gestions on the card : Don't mail any letter until you are sure that it is completely and properly addressed. Don't place the address so that there will be no room for the postmark. Don't, in the hurry of business, in addressing a letter, write the name of your own state upon it instead of that of the person addressed a very com mon error. ' Don't fail to make certain that your manner of writing the name of an office or state may not cause it to be mistaken for one similar in appear ance. It is oltcn better to write the name in full. Don't fail, if you are in doubt as to the right name of the office for which your letter is intended, to consult the postal guide, which any postmaster will be pleased to show you. Don't fail to give the street and house number of the person for whom mail matter is intended in addressing it to a city or large town. Don't mail any letter until you are sure that it is properly stamped. Don't fail to place the stamp on the upper right hand corner. " Don't write on the envelope, "In haste." " In care of the postmaster." etc. It does no good, and tends to confusion in the rapid handling of mail matter. Don't fail to bear in mind that it is unlawful to inclose matter of a high class in one that is lower e. g., mer chandise in newspaper. Don't mail any letter unless your address, with a request to return, is upon the face of the envelope, so that in case of non delivery it will be re turned directly to you. Don't fail to give your correspond ents your full address, so that a new postman cannot fail to find you. Don't fail to inform your postmas ter of any change in your address. Don't trust to the fact that you are an " old resident," well-known citizen etc., but have your letters addressed in full. Don't fail if you intend to be away from home for any length of time to inform your postmaster what disposi tion shall be made of your mail. Don't delay the delivery of any mail matter that you may take for another. Don't fail to sign your letters in full, so that if they reach the dead letter office they may be promptly returned. Don't when you fail to receive an expected letter, charge the postal service with the loss until you have learned from your correspondent of all the facts in regard to the mailing, contents, etc, New York J'reta. A Newsboy's Travels. He comes north on News express and goes back the same day, thus traveling 236 miles each day on the round trip. He works every day in the year, and thus gets over 87,140 miles per annum. He has been on the road in this busi ness fully twenty years, on the same run; consequently he has the enormous mileage of 1,742,800 to his credit ; or he could have circled the globe about seventy times by traveling round and round. A Bad Horse Market. According to the Chambersburg Spirit, Philadelphia is a bad horse market at present. One dealer from Franklin county took a car load of horses down last week and one of the horses that he paid $40 for and freight, old for $30. Other dealers who were in the market did not fare any better than did Mr. Zullinger. He saw a fine pair of driving horses, well matched, five years old and sound all over, sold for $6j, for the pair. A bay horse five years old, sound and fine appearing, guaranteed to go in less than three minutes, to be returned after a month's trial if not satisfactory, went for $75.
