V. A. Event and wife have commenced
housekeeping in the new house of Creasy

Hon. C. E. Rice, of Wilkcsbarre, has
had the degree of L. L. D. conferred
upon by the Trustees of Lafayette col
lege. W. F. Itartman has the contract for
the plumbing work at the Court House.
It will be a good job when it is fin
ished. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. K. F.lwcll and son
Edward started on Thursday morning
for a trip in the South. They will be
absent about three weeks.
William Elliot, of Philadelphia, is vis
iting his brother, Robert Elliot, on
Fourth Street. He is favorably impressed
with the appearance of our town.
Mr. and Mrs. Nugent, who have
spent the summer in our town, have
gone to Philadelphia to remain during
the winter. They made many friends
during their stay among us.
II, R. Williams and wife, of Plymouth,
spent Sunday with Mrs. Williams' moth
er, Mrs. Clarissa Peacock, on Fifth St.
She likes her new home, and has many
friends here who are always glad to see
her.
R. W. Alexander, who has secured a
position as car inspecter at Philadelphia,
has moved to that place, and his family
will join him in a few days. He is a
first class mechanic and deserves the
sucess he has attained.
I. G. Deiferich is putting in a parti
tion and making other improvements
to his store room on Market Square.
Monday was pension day, and clerk

to 7 o'clock.
The house of Mrs. Wyncoop, occu
pied by John Bush at Third and Cen
tre streets is being raised, and a second

Earnest has moved from East street
to one of William Kramer 1 houses on
Catharine street.
There were two large audiences at

the first Chicago production of " The
Smugglers, a meiouram m

mendable than the dramatic construe
lion. The story is founded on weatner
beaten lines, but serves to keep the
interest keyed up to a high pitch.
The situations are strong in several
inatanrta. The scenery is good and
the company above the average.
