On last Thursday evening Council met in regular session transacted business as follows : Minutes read and approved. Permission asked to widen straighten alley running along perty of E. B. Tustm on iMatket street. Ordered, that the. matter be referred to Street Committee, which was empowered to act in conjunction with town engineer. Moved by Mr. Wilson that Tax Collector M. C. Woodward be notified to meet Council at a special meeting and repoit as to collections for last year. So ordered. A formulated ordinance regulating the coitemplated electric railway was read, and additional streets over which the road might pass were men tioned by Messrs. J. L. Dillon, A. Z. Schoch, C. W. Miller, L. E. Waller, and others. There was objection interposed to the paying of license for the cars from the beginning. An exemption for 10 years was asked, along with certain modifications as regards the removal of snow. Ordered by action of Council, that the cars be exempt from taxation for a period of five years. Council also favored the project by granting the right of way as sought, except as to crossing over bridges owned by the town. The time limit for the completion of the project is one year from pass age of ordinance, and work on the road to commence within three months. Adjourned to meet and further ar range the matter on Monday evening, the 10th instant. On Monday evening Council held an adjourned meeting to further con sider the question of the contemplated electric railway and to pass upon such other business as might properly come before it. Present, Drinker, Yost, Sterling, Knorr and Creasy. The formulated ordinance granting right of way to Bloomsburg Street Railway Company being read was held subject to amendment. Mr. J. L. Dillon objected to clause exempting the company from taxation for five years from passage of act. He preferred that it should read "five years from the operation ot said road." C. W. Miller also interposed objec tions to the following restrictions : " That the privileges and franchises herein granted shall not extend to any bridges owned or partly owned by the town of Bloomsburg." These propositions calling forth rather lengthy discussion as to rights and'privileges that ought to be granted. The matter was laid over for further consideration hereafter. As per previous order tax collector Woodward appeared before Council and presented a list of taxables for ex oneration Council instructed to ex amine and pass upon them. The confirmation of the election of Tax Collector J. K. Uittenbender was favorably passed upon by council. 1 ne loiiowing dius Deing presented w ere ordered paid : C. E. Not only are the crops and fruit drying up in this section of the State, but the water supply is becoming so low as to be alarming in some parts of this county. Wells and springs that have never gone dry in the past fifty years and more are now useless, and the creeks are drying up killing the fish and all living matter contained in the streams. The river at this point is har41y ever lower than it is at present and if the town did not have Mont gomery to draw from the water supply of the town would be a serious ques tion. The buckwheat crop is fast becom ing dried up by the hot blasts and lack of rain, and a farmer informs us that the blossoms have dried up. The apple crop has long since been recog nized as a failure and cider will be a scarcity this Fall. Over along the Sinnemahoning, in Elk county, the creeks have all dried up and fish and eels by the barrel could be scooped from the beds. The water is so low that the fish die and the entire ' stream will be divested of them if rain does not come soon. The moon ii now perpendicular and according to an old sign the water has all run out and there will be no rain during September. But the moon may be fooled. We hope so. Clear field Republican. ' Who Was He ? A Bloomsburg fisherman tried for vears to catch a particular black bass and on Saturday succeeded in landing the monster. When landed, it was found that it was too full of fish hooks to be eaten and had to be sold for scrap iron. Shickuhinny Demo crat.
