This bill passed the House finally on Tuesday. It has yet to go through the Senate, and the uovernor s hands. The bill Lrovides that parents and guardians of children between the age of 8 and 12 shall be required to send them to school in which the common English branches are taught during at least sixteen weeks in the year if any school within two miles of the pupil's home is open during the year, but this is not to apply to children otherwise instructed in common English branches for a like period of time. The parents or guardir.ns are tinder a penalty of $2 for the first ye 's of fense and $5 for each subscqu one, but no penalty is collectable i .se it cannot be paid on account of pov erty of the parents.
