Wolverton Nominated by Acclamation- The democratic Conferees of the Seventeeth Congressional district met at Sunbury Saturday morning August 27th in the parlors of the city hotel to place in nomination a candidate for I Congress. The Conferees were as fol- I lows : Columbia, J. K. Bittenbender, Bloomsburg ; B. J. Doyle, Centralia ; Montour, Thomas Chalfant. William Kase Wet, both of Danville ; Nor thumberland, G. W. Armstrong, Sun bury: H. M.Snyder, Shamokini Sul livan, Dr. Francis Chaffee, Forksville; C. E. Jackson, Hemic. Thos Chalfant of Montour was made Chairman, with J. K. Bittenben der and Dr. Chaffee as secretaries. On motion of G. W. Armstrong of Northumberland and Wm. Kase, West of Montour, Hon. S. 1'. Wofverton was named as the unanimous choice of the Conferees, and his nomination made by acclamation. A Committee consisting of Mr. West and Dr. Chaf fee waited upon Mr. Wolverton and announced the action of the Confer ees. Mr. Wolverton appeared and in a pleasant speech assured the Confer ees of his appreciation of their action and of the instructions the Conferees received from each county embraced in the district.
