A Big Deal in Coal Lands- PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD COMPANY SECURES AN OPTION ON TRACTS IN THE fcCMUVKILL REGION. Tamaqua, Tune 6. Mining circles are interested in the prospective trans fers of the only remaining large tracts of undeveloped coal lands hereabouts not controlled by corporations, it having leaked out that Pennsylvania railroad capitalists have secured an option on the Silverton and Tuscarora lands and have begun prospectirg operations thereon. 1 he former lands are located near Minersville, on the line of the new ex tension the Pennsylvania company is constructing west from Pottsville, and just as soon as some old legislation is settled the new owners will take pro cession. The Tuscarora lands are a little west of this place and contain neirly 2,000 acres of very valuable de posits. On the eastern border of this tract the Reading company is opening an immense new operation at Silver Creek. The Tuscarora lands are owned by the estates of F. P. Govern, P. W. Sheafer and others, whose representa tives have repeatedly refused offers of over a thousand dollars an acre for the property. The Sheafer family are friendly to the Pennsylvania railroad, and it was through them thatScranton mining experts recently secured the Chamberland tract, on the northern outskirts of Pottsville, for the Penn sylvania people. President Frisbie, of the Schuylkill and Lehigh railroad, and the Leisen- rings recently, it is said, ottered $1,5 00 an acre for this tract, but could not get it. Between 2,000,000 and 3.000,000 tons of coal per annum could be readily shipped from the Tuscarora tract. The Sheafers ex pected to consummate the deal with out publicity, and refuse to affirm the authenticity of the report, but suffi cient has leaked out to pretty con clusively prove that the Pennsylvania can have the tract, and will take it if "prospecting warrants the payment of the high price demanded. That this tract is very valuable is evidenced by the fact that, in its present state of wild mountain land, it is assessed an average of several hundred dollars an acre. From Friend to Friend Goes the story of the excellence of Hood's Sarsaparilla and what it has accomplished, and this is the strongest advertising which is done in behalf of this medicine. We endeavor to tell honestly what Hood's Sarsaparilla is and what it will do, but what it has done is far more important and far more potent Its unequalled record of cures is sure to convince those who have never tried Hood's Sarsaparilla that it is an excellent medicine. Dr- Waller's Opinion Superintendent of Public Instruction D. J. Waller, in speaking of the text books on manual training, said : "In the first place, manual training is a very recent idea, and tnere has been no time for text books on that subject to get old, and in the next place a text book on manual training is not much use anyhow. Do you think a boy could learn to hoe potatoes, or be come a cirpenter bv reading a book ? Did you ever try to learn an athletic sport from a book? I did once, When I was a boy I bought a book on swimming After I had mastered the theory as explained in that valuable work, I went down to the creek to put the theory into practice. They rolled me me on a barrel and punched me till they got the water out of me, and then I went home and burned the book." Sarsaparilla belongs to the smilax family of plants, and is found very generally over the American conti nent i but the variety that is richest in medicinal properties is the Honduras root, of which the famous Ayer s Sar saparilla is made. Colors in favor this year are all shades of pale green that verge on gray, Do not choose the yellow green that looks hot and must be most sparingly used m hot weathr. Chocolate brown and green is a favorite combination and a good one. Gray always needs some other tone combination to give it character. Bluish gray is detestable and brings out all the sallowness in a sallow person, but if gray you must have, and in the right shade it is most becoming, take that with the greenish shade. It should be trimmed with ether dark gray, brown or black. Never mingle pink with the cold gray. It is a mistake commouly made, but nothing can be more crude, nnk and black are I nked together this year and pale yellow with deep orange. ith a little black, such a combination. 'Oh, spare me, lock of your hair," tiear angel, one a bashful young lover took courage and sighed i r " i were a sin to ret use so modest a prayer, so take the whole wig," th sweet creature replied. Tul Hits. Ayer's Sarsaparilla requires smaller doses, and is more effective, than any other blood medicines. Children Cryfoi Pitcher's Castorla.
