All cotntunnlcatlons should bo addressed to THE COLtMBIAN, , Dloomsburg, fa FRIDAY. APRIL 8, 189J. Rev. Dr. Parkhurst of New York visited some disreputable houses in that city and procured evidence w hich he laid before the trand jury anil hat! a number of teoule indicted. The Doctor seems to have had a pretty good time, as in his investigations he saw nude women dance tne can can play leap frog, and he drank beer with them. Perhaps the end justifies the means. The battle in Khode island on Wednesday was a hard fought one The vote was the largest ever cast in the state. For Governor the vote was as follows : Ward well democrat, 22 07 j ; Brown, republican, 23.187 j Bar ton, people s party. 176 ; (.filbert, pro hibition. 1,411. The s'ate law re quires a majority vote to elect, and as there is no election by the people, the legislature will elect, and as that re publican, the republican candidates lor state officers will be chosen. The result is a surprise to every body and shows that there are several thousand people in the state whom partv managers can never locate. The total vote of Rhode Island is only about 42,000. The republicans carried the state in 18SS by 3.173 plu ralitv, but the democrats had a plu rality in 1S89 of 4.419; in 1S90, 1,- 560, and m 1S91, 1,254. We would advise all farmers to keep on hand Bull's Head Toultry Powdc. It is indispensable where poultry is kept. Price only 25 cents. It is well for the Democrats of this community to understand early in the approaching campaign that Mr. Charles A. Dana, edi'or of the 'tn newspaper, proposes to carry out his accustomed method of righting the regular Democratic nominee for the Presidency, in the hope of electing he Republican candidate, as has been lis custom in all elections si-.ce his personal friend, Samuel J. Tilden, ran ior the office. Mr. Dana has been ronvinced all along that all the chances were in favor of Grover Clev Hand's receiving the nomination, and there fore he has made it appear that he has some cause for hating Cleveland per sonally, so that this shall be an excuse for working for the Republican candi date when the time comes. As a mat ter of fact, Mr. Dana has no reasons whatever for hating Mr. Cleveland, except that the latter is an honest tar iff reform Democrat. Mr. Dana is a high tariff Republican, and will com bat any man, unless he be a Tammany spoilsman, who is opposed to the principles of that class of partisan. The public should not lose sight of the fact that the Sun is a Republican newspaper in national politics and a Tammany organ locally. It is, in fact, as regards its politics, the most hypocritical and despicacle sheet from Maine to Texas, and it is a compli ment to Grover Cleveland and to his Democratic integrity that he is so cor dially hated and bitterly opposed by its editor.
