The School directors had a tie vote
or the question of placing a Webster's
Dictionary in each of the schools. We
are informed that the equal vote was
undoubtedly caused by some old fogies,
who got their "larnin" without ever
knowing anything about a dictionary,
and expect their posterity to be as
smart and intelligent as themselves,
which theory they will perhaps live to
see exploded.
Poisons in Cosmetics-
It seems to be the fashion for young
ladies with pimples and blotches on
their faces to make experiments with
various cosmetics. Madame Fiffypaffy
advertises her foreign-named com
pound,, composed of a combination of
poisonous mineral substances that
deaden and burden the delicate
substances of the skin. There
are no complexions like those
that nature gives. The tonic,
strengthening unci healthgiving effects
of Swift's Specific (S. S. S.) permit
nature to work her will in this respect,
as thousands of ladies, both young and
old,, have discovered. The cheapest
and most beautiful complexions de

A Counterfeiter Arrestod-
At an early hour Sunday morning
secret service agents arrested Reuben
Palmer, near Troy, Pcnna. Palmer,
who is a horse dealer, and travels over
the state, disposing of his stock, is
charged with passing counterfeit money.
J or some time tne country in the vi
cinity of Elmira, Ilornellsvilie and
1 roy has been flooded with spurious
coin, and recent developements led the
detectives to believe that Palmer was
at the bottom of it. It was finally
traced to him, and his arrest quickly
followed.
It ha? transpired that he was an as
sistant to the famous James Holden,
a notorious counterfeiter, who has
served several terms in the penitenti
ary, and was arrested in New York on
Saturday by the secret service agents,
who are now on their way to Pittsburg
with their prisoner. Palmer was
brought before Commissioner Mix, of
Towanda, and in default of $3000 bail
was committed to the Bradford county
prison. The search of Palmer's prem
ises brought to light a complete coun
terfeiter's outfit.

Weak Women-
The more sensitive nature of the fe
male sex renders women much more
susceptible than men to those numer
ous ills which spring from lack of har
mony in the system. The nervous
system gives way, sick headache is
frequent, the appetite is lost, and other
ailments peculiar to the sex cause great
suTering. Hood's Sarsaparilla is pe
culiarly adapted for such cases, and
has received the most gratifying praise
for the relief it has afforded thousands
of women whose very existence before
taking it was only misery. It strength
ens the nerves, cures sick headache
and indigestion, purifies and vitalizes
the blood, and gives regular and heal
thy action to every organ in the body.
