Senator Hearst Daad- Hearst, of California, who for some weeks past has been quite ill at his residence in Washington city, died Saturday night at ten minutes past 9 o'clock. His complaint was a cancer ous affection of the stomach, and though his physicians announced some days ago that his recovery was impos sible, death came rather unexpectedly, as the attack of great weakness that set in Friday was not thought to be more serious than several he had re cently suffered. Senator Hearst was conscious almost up to the last moment and suffered greatly. His death will result in bringing an other Republican Senator from Cali fornia. Mr. Hearst was a democrat and had two years yet to serve as United States Senator. Sherman Left no Will The public has been awaiting with interest the publication of general William T. Sherman's will, but in all probability they wi'l wait in vain. None has been offered for probate, and it is believed tnat the general did not rrake a will. It has been learned from a friend ot the family that all efforts to discover a testamentary paper have been futile. A search has been made through all of the general's private boxes, desks and office, but nothing in the shape of a will has been discovered, A further search will be made, but if. after due diligence, the family is unable to find any, an application will be made for letters of administration upon the estate. It is said that the general was not a man of wealth, hav .ng little, if any, real estate His pen sion as retired general of the United States Amiy is believed to have been his only source of income. His per sonal estate is not large, but his war relics and curios are highly prized by the old soldier's friends and family. Dr. Blanc, Chief Sanitary Inspector of the State Board of Health and one of the ablest physicians in the city, has caused considerable commotion by his announcement that there exists at present in New Orleans as many as twenty-five fully developed cases of leprosy. The news was made public Friday last during a meeting of the Health Committee ot the City Council, and was made known through a letter from a citizen asking the city to take steps for the removal of a leper who resided in the lower district. During the course of the discussion Dr. Blanc stated that no steps could be taken for the care of the afflicted people as no provision has been made by the city or State Government to look after them or prevent the spread of the (lis eases as the lepers are allowed to roam about unrestrained. O, Deafness Can't Bo Cursd- By local applications, as they cannot reach the diseased portion of the ear. There .is only one way to cure deaf ness. Deafness is caused by an inflam ed condition of the mucous lining of the Eustachian Tube. When this tube gets inflamed you have a rumbl ing sound or imperfect hearing, and when it is entirely closed, Deafness is the result, and unless inflammation can be taker out and this tube re stored to its normal condition, hearing will be destroyed forever; nine cases out of ten are caused by catarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed condition of the mucous surfaces.
