Ex-Mayor Richard Vaur has been
nominated by tho democratic conven
tion of tho Third district of I'hiladel
phia. as a candidate for Congress to
fill the vacanoy oaused by the death of
Samuel J. Randall. The special elec
tion will bo held on May 20. There
were a number of other candidates but
all stepped out of the way for Mr.
Vaux'nnd ho was unanimously nomi
nated. As yet thero is no announcement of
any candidate for representative on
this sido of tho river. The llaioo of
Peter A. Evans of Montour township
is being talked of, and his many friends
are urging him to be a candidate. He
is an intelligent man, and as be is a
farmer he knows the needs of the
farmers. Mo better selection could be
made and if Mr. Evans consents to run
ho -will get there. The people are get
ting tired of professional politicians."

Amos Applcman was sentenced to pay
fine of $500, and costs of prosecution and
undergo an imprisonment In the Eastern
Penitentiary for one year and two months,
Mrs. Forney plead guilty on tho Indict,
ment for keeping a bawdy house. Bbe
was sentenced to pay a fine ot $50 and the
cost of prosecution, and undergo Imprison,
ment In the county Jail for one year. Ben.
Unco for selling- lluuor without a license
was suspended.
Joseph Gravel was sentenced to pay
fine of $100, costs of prosecution, and be lev
prisoned In the Eastern Penitentiary for
one year aud two months.
