on Wednesday evening. We decline comments

the oitiiens, irrespective of party, tendered Mr.

thought he was making an old time Democratic

was a leading feature of the entertainment, and
both bands did their level beat. The Buck

We have in our sanctum a lump of coal ta
ken from the Witts farm near Jerseylown. It
is said that a deposit has been discovered which
gradually widens ending in a vein four or five
feet wide, and the work of opening up the coal
is now going on. If it should be discovered in
paying quantities it will create a new Industry
for that portion, of the .county. The specimen
shown us has a dill appearance, and looks
more like slate than coal, but as we do not
know a great deal about coal except the price
per ton, we cannot say but that this Is just the
kind of a lump that indicates a large deposit.
A thorough Investigation should be held, and
if it proves that this valuable mineral exists in
Madism township it will be of great benefit to
the whole county.
