But not being able to go out among our people to collect, when we are in need of ley we are obliged to call on them through the columns of onr paper. The books of the .ate firm of Dnrborrow A Lulz are in our hands for settlement and on them we find a ,rge number of unsettled accounts for ad vertising and subscriptions, amounting to sev eral thousand dollars. There are outstanding Jthts of the late firm which must be met and pa.id. and to enable us to do this we most rely u: n our patrons for prompt payments. They have never yet failed us when called upon and w are confident that they will not now. But a: a further inducement, we will accept, from a", who are in arrears for subscriptions and who pay for the past year and the yea- in ad vance, before or during September Court, $2 per year, the same as if they had paid for all : advance. We have greatly enlarged and improved our paper, at a heavy expense, without any increase in its price, and the lib eral terms now offered cannot be extended be yond September Court. THE MEETING. —The friends of Republican principles will have a grand rally at the Court House on TRESDAT BVSMIMO or COCRT FF EKE, SEPT 8, 1808. The HON. JOHN SCOTT of Hnntingdon will address the meeting. Gov. GEARY, the Hox. G. A. GROW and the Hov. T. M. MARSHALL have also been invited and one or tnore of them will be here. Let there be a good turn out. The Grant and Colfax Club of Bedford has met, with such zpleudid success in holding meetings, that we anticipate a very large meeting on this occaision. The speakers are amongst the best in the State. Oar principles -are what saved the nation in* its direst adversities. Come and hear them discus sed by some of the ablest speakers in the state. Hon. John Scott of Huntingdon, who, up to the breaking out of the rebellion, had been a life long democrat will address the meeting. Let every democrat, who loves his country and who wishes to east his vote for her best interests, come and hear him. The issues of the campaign are vital ones and every man should be thoroughly posted in regard to them. Let every man who car. possibly come be present. Our enthusiastic meetings are striking terror into the hearts of our enemies and thinning their ranks of their best material. Let there be a full turn ont from every part of the county and we will have such a meeting as will quench the last ray of hope in the hearts of the Copperheads of the county. Da those who doubt whether it is wise to place money in a Life Insurance Company ever consider how wonderfully economical the investment is t Take the ordinary life plan of insurance; where the party insured ;>ays his policy yearly. A man of thirty may be insured for one thousand dollars at the annual cost of §l6 55, or a little over four cents a day. ID other words, a workingman has only to drink one glass of beer less every morning to secure his family from want. A man of fifty need only pay $36 65, or about ten ceuts a Jay. while a matt of sixty may be insured for $63 20. or a little more than seventeen cents a day. N'o man, how ever limited his circumstances, can refuse to put away such a small part of his income for the benefit of those dear to him, especially when we hav° a company in existence like the National Life Insurance Company, whose advertisement we print elsewhere. This Com pany has in iu management men of nation al reputation for honor and sagacity. At its bead we have such men as Jay Cooke, whose name alone is an assurance that every prom ise made by the Company will be redeemed. Francis Jordan was announced to speak at the Radical meeting on Saturday evening and was in town on that day, bnt for some reason or other did not do so.— Gazette of the "trth. Simply a—falsehood. It was known that Col. Jordan would be in town about that time, and bis many friends here being desirous of hearing him upon the issues of the day, it was announced that he "was expected to be pres ent. and if so, would address the Borough Campaign Club." Unfortunately, the Col. was compelled to leave on Saturday morning, and consequently "wss not in town on that day. ' and for that "reason"' did not speak . MEETING. —The camp meeting lately held in St. Clair town ship, under the management of Rev. A. W. Deckej. preacher in charge of the Schellsbnrg circuit, closed on Thursday morning of last week. About sixty persons, among whom were a number of prominent citizens of that section, professed conversion, a majority of whom united themselves with the church. The meeting is spoken of as one of the most ! powerful and successful revivals ever held in this county. All the exercises were conducted with the utmost religions decorum, and the large crowd in attendance behaved themselves in an orderly and attentive manner. SMALL GAME. —The Gazette published, some time ago, a list of conversions to the Demo cratic faith. A number of those named in the fist have since come out in cards denying any intention of uniting themselves with the "foul party" and declaring for GRANT AND COLFAX. A majority of the balance have never been heard of in political circles and probably exist only in the imagination of some over zealous Democratic sensationalist. At least, they possess no influence. Demo cratic conversions are like angels visits, "few and far between."' , DONT LIKE IT. —The Gazette does not like the personnel of the list which was published in this paper week before last, of those who have "deserted the foul ship.'" How "con science does make cowards of us all." But dont get scared yet. The cry is "still they come." We shall give yon another and longer one before long. The roll of "con versions" that will be shown np in November will be entirely too lengthy for publication in our paper. We shall merely refer you to the ballpt box.
