The annual encampment and exhi- bition of the Central Pennsylvania Grangers at Centre Hall this week has not been as large and enthusias- tic as usual cn account of the rainy weather. Preparations had been made for a big gathering and many of the tents were filled with farmers’ families who have been there for the week. The farmers also contributed liberally to the exhibition of farm produce and stock which this year sur- passes any former display. But the crowd has not been as large as usual. Most of the campers moved in on Friday and Saturday and they con- stituted the major portion of the crowd in attendance at the Sunday re- ligious services. Owing to the gas- less Sunday ruling only six motor cars were to be seen on the grounds on Sunday, whereas in former years from two to three hundred were there. But notwithstanding the rain and muddy condition of the ground the program as arranged for the week was carried out in detail. Quite a number of people were drawn to the picnic on Wednesday afternoon to hear the address of Judge Eugene C. Bonniwell, Democratic candidate for Governor, and also for the talk of Senator Colby, of the U. S. food ad- ministration. The latter was not present, however, and his place was taken by another representative of thé department. = ea ! Yesterday the chief speakers were Hon. John A. McSparran, Master of the State Grange, and Charles E. Patton, Secretary of Agriculture. The delightful weather yesterday also attracted the largest crowd of the week. Today will be sales day and the final closing of the week’s en- campment. Following is a list of the tent holders for the week: LIST OF TENT HOLDERS. Centre Hall.—C. R. Neff, D. L. Bartges, D. K. Miller requested coun- l cil to have a cut-down curb put down in front of the Miller property on south Water street. Mr. Harris, of the Street committee, stated that it would not be good policy to put a cut- down curb at that place owing to the | surface water that would drain { around that curve during heavy rains, {but the Miller property would be | properly taken care of whenever they | established their roadway; that Mr. | Miller would be given permission to put down a hanging bridge which would give him a better grade than a cut-down curb. Attorney Gettig was by Mr. Harris and the matter was re- i ferred to the Street committee to ar- range everything satisfactorily. Requests for exoneration of water taxes were made by John M. Gordon and L. C. Wallace. The matter was i referred to the Water committee. missions on the collection of taxes, as the work performed and expense in- curred. The matter was referred to the Finance committee for investiga- tion and report.
