Wednes- day 8 p. m., 93 E. High street. In the absence of the pastor, Rev. E. Fulcomer, on Sunday, Sept. 12th, Rev. C. C. Shuey will preach at 10.30 a. m. and Rev. C. H. Brandt, District Supt. of the Anti-Saloon League, at 7.30 p. m. Judge Orvis Replies . Bellefonte, Pa., Sept. 7, 1915. To Messrs. JAMES H. POTTER AND C. C. SHUEY, Gentlemen :— A statement purporting to be signed by yourselves appeared in last week’s issue of the Republican. Though it was neither addressed to myself nor any one in particular, it purports to ask a series of questions which imply, at least, reflec- tion upon myself. I do riot believe you de- sire to know the real facts, because if you did you would have taken the trouble to have inquired of me personally, or at least examined the records at the Court House. But in order to satisfy the hon- est voters of the County who have a right to be informed, I wish to address to you in the most public manner possi- ble, that every implication and injurious inference that can possibly be made from your insulting questions are entire- ly false. To be more specific I here state, that I have never received a penny of income or revenue from any liquor business or any business allied with the manufacture or sale of any intoxicating beverage, not even a patent medicine having for one of its principal ingredients wine and alcohol. I have not received for my campaign ex- penses any money from any licensed or unlicensed person in the county, nor have I the promise from any. In fact, no one has subscribed to my campaign, and I am paying my campaign expenses out of my private resources. The records will show that I have refused many applica- tions for license because of remonstran- ces and, as-a fact, I have never ignored any remonstrances where there has been any pertinent facts alleged and proven. As I propose to publish this in the sev- eral newspapers ot the County, I will re- gard further statements or questions of this kind hereafter as malicious falshoods, I beg to remain, Very truly yours, 60-36-1t ELLs L.
