County. Notes of Interest to Church People of all Denominations in all Parts of the County. CHRISTIAN SCIENCE SOCIETY. Service Sunday 10:45 a. m. Wednes- day 8 p. m., 94 E. High street. GO-TO-CHURCH SUNDAY. Bellefonte is falling in line with other progressive communities of the State and Nation, and is going to have a Go-to- Church Sunday. This day falls on Sab- bath next, May 3rd. All preparations have been made. Invitations have been circulated. Others will be sent out. And this communication itself is an invitation to every citizen of this community to at- tend the church of his choice. Catholics and Protestants alike, are invited and urged to go to the church with which they are affiliated. Go once, go twice. 0. There isn’t any reason why Bellefonte cannot have 4000 people in its places of worship on this day. And yet if it does it will do something it probably never did in all its history. Even the “good old times” of our fathers, when “every body went to church” wouldn't give statistics showing an attendance of 80% of the population. “Say not thou that the former times are better than these, for thou hast not inquired wisely con- cerning this.” So, we are trying to set up a standard, by making a record. Can we have 80% of the population of Belle- fonte and vicinity in our churches this coming Sunday? If we do we will have to enlarge our capacity; we will have to have an overflow meeting at the Court House, and Petrikin Hall. For we don’t have the seating capacity to take care of that many folks. But it would be a sight for angels and men to see 80% of our people try to get into our church buildings next Sunday morning. It would be something for the youngest to tell his great grand-children. The story would be on this wise, “why, once so many people of Bellefonte wanted to go to church that they couldn't all get into the buildings. I tried to get in, and just got in; and had to sit on the pulpit steps!” Just think how that would make the descendants open their eyes! Lets do it. In that far off degenerate age, say in about 1997, it would be a great story. And it might mean something. But real- ly we are more concerned about to-day, and ourselves. “Act in the present. Heart within, and God o’er head.” Go- to-church Sabbath. G. E. HAWES, President Ministerium. ee ee. ST. JOHN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH NEXT SUN- DAY. Rev. W. M. B. Glanding, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran church, lately requested President Woodrow Wilson and Mr. John Wanamaker to send him a few written reasons for belief in attendance at church, which he could read to the con- gregation at the special “Go-to-Church” services on May 3rd. Both these eminent laymen kindly and promptly complied. These letters will be presented next Sun- day morning and evening in the Luther- an church, corner of Allegheny and Linn streets, and their contents will be the basis of Rev. Glanding’s sermons. If you are living outside the borough, and have not had a personal invitation, this is a special invitation tor you to at- tend religious services at the church of your choice next Sunday. It will be “Go- to-Church” Sunday. Don’t be queer and stay at home. Join the procession next Sunday. The Church needs you and you need the Church. Ain’t it So. From the Houston Post. Anyway, President Wilson must admit that there are very few Democratic Con- gressmen who are not willing to do what’s right if they can be convinced that it will not injure their chances of re-election. meme [ you always want to have the best take the WATCHMAN and you'll have it. LEMONT. * Saturday brought a heavy rain. Mrs. Ira Nearhoof returned to her home Wed- nesday. Hazel Rishel is improving very slowly since she came home. Mrs. Oscar Rishel is confined to her home with chicken-pox. The few warm days are bringing out the leaves and blossoms. There have been very few trout caught in Spring creek up to this time. William Williams spent a few days with his mother, Mrs. Alice Williams. Mrs. Margaret Williams has been on the sick list but is able to be out again. Some of the farmers were plowing on Monday, as they are in a hurry to put out the spring seed- ing.
