In Bellefonte the Democrats elected most of their prominent candidates. The only nomination the party made on the borough sioket was P. H. Gherrity for overseer of the poor and he was elected over James Rine, the Republican nominee, by 104 of a majority. The rest of the borough ticket, W. B. Rankin, for treasurer ; Maurice A. Jackson, auditor, and Leavder Green, high © wmstahle, all Republicans, were elected. Oae of the biggest viotories for the Demo- orats, perhaps, was in the strongly Repub lican North ward where J. C. Harper was eleoted councilman over Clement Dale Esq., by 49 of a majority. In the Soath ward W. Fred Musser was elected council man over Dr. E.S. Dorworth by 115 ma- jority, possibly the largest majority ever given any candidate for a borough office in that ward. Inthe West ward Dr. M. A. Kirk was elected over Darius Waite by 11 majority, even against the most strenuous opposition, some of which was from mem- bers of his own party. The election of the three Democratic councilmen will leave the next council with a representation of | J only two Republicans. For school director the Democrats elected their candidates in both the South and Wess wards while the Republican candidate was elected in the North. Throughout the county Soow Shoe borough returned a sweeping victory for she Citizens ticket against one of Republi- cans and Democrats mixed. In Walker township there was more ootting and slashing than in any other precinot io the county but the result was about even. Other townsbipe stood by their goons io about the same way they have for years. Four townships in the county voted on the question of substituting a cash tax for a work tax for road purposes and in only one, Harris, did the proposition carry. The four townships in question and the vote for and against are as follows : Township For Against 7 445 - M0 0 101 152 43 48 The complete returns from Bellefonte and Centre county are as follows. The streete are equipped with gasolene lamps but since Russell Solt was so badly burned by av explosion of gasoline several months ago that he died no person can be obtained to attend to the lights and they vasurally remain unlighted.
