Allegheny St., Bellefonte, Pa, ERR To CENTRE County FARMERS —*‘Farm- er's Week’’ will be held at State College beginning Thursday, December 27th, and continuing until January 20d inclusive. We desire in the interests of those having the affair in charge to call special atten- tion to the fact that this will be no boys gathering, unless they are farmer’s boys interested in learning all they can about the farm. It will be a week for men, men who want to acquaint themselves with the most modern methods of agriculture. More than forty lectures will be delivered by eighteen practical agricnlturists and eda- ecators and a number of practical demonstra- tions will be given every day. There is every indication that there will be a large attendance of farmers from all over the State and the College authorities especially desire a large representation of Centre county farmers. For that reason this appeal is made to every farmer in Cen- tre county to take advantage of this oppor- tunity to inform himeelf on things he ought to know. Youn will never have a better chance to gain good knowledge at so little cost. Therefore don’t fail to attend every day, if vou possibly cae. REGARDING THE FIFTH REGIMENT. ~—Col. Rufas T. Bider, of Lewistown, last week sent to Brigadier General Wiley, of the Second Brigade, his resignation as Colonel of the Fifth regiment, with the request that it be accepted at once. General Wiley acted accordingly and at the same time stated that it was possible the Fifth would be disbanded as a regiment and its seven companies used to fill up several of the other regiwents that do not vow have their fall quota of twelve companies. Adjutant General Stewart, however, stated that so far as be knew there was no intention of disbanding the regiment and farther that he would issue au order for an election to select a new colonel! as soon as possible. In that event Lieut. Colonel Hugh 8. Taylor, of this place, will un. doubtedly be elected to the vacancy and once again the headquarters of the Fifth will be in Bellefonte. Col. Elder's reason for resigning was that the duties of the of- fice took up too much of his time and in- terfered with his business interests. —— rw —-The Whiterock. quarries, and for that matter some of the other limestone quarries herenbouts, have bad a bard time keeping their men at work the past week owing to the inclement weather. And especially as there was both rain and snow and the weather warn enough that the quarries were very muddy. At the White. rock quarries the mud was almost a foot deep and this was the greatest objection the men found to working. ——There was a general shake up in the stock market this week and the lambs were shorn of their fleece and driven back to the tall timber. The flurry was caused by the announcement of the board of directors of the Chicago, Milwan- kee and St. Paul Railway that they had decided to issue wany millions of new stock. ——t ——It is a matter of public congratula- tion that the one very bad case of diphtheria developed in our midst has been so com- pletely quarantined that there was no spread of the disease. The physicians in attendance have thoroughly safeguarded the public. . te. ——Three inches of snow that fell dur- ing Wednesday night has made splendid sleighing, and the blacksmith shops were crowded with horses being roughed yes. terday in order to take advantage of the snow. Lemont, Wednesday morning it was 10 degrees be- low zero. Rev. A. Wertz, Jno. R. Williams and W. W. Schreck were pleasant callers at the home of Felix Shuey, Sunday. L. F. Mayes, our hustling auctioneer, has been doing a fair business this fall and is on for a few big spring sales, for he has been giving satisfaction. Sunday and Monday brought us about three inches of snow, but very poor sleigh- ———— ing, owing to the muddy roads that we had in parts of College township. . H. Wetzel, of Bellefonte, was in town Thursday of jast week to run the line be- tween the Shreck has been in dispute for some time. - En Dale estates, which HARTER NOTICE —Notiee is hereby ven that an te Gove hat 43 ater Bo Commission of | Penosylvania on Friday, ihe 28 h day of De- aay A.
