oN -— - McKinley Seems by Late Reports to Have a Plu- rality of 266,000.—Gained in Every County.— Crow is Elected Sheriff of Philadelphia by 18,000. Details From the Keystone State. PHILADELPHIA, Pa., Nov. 4:= Estimates from every county in the State at 3 a. m., gives McKinley an apparent plurality of 260,950. The great size of the ticket made counting necessarily slow, and the es- timates in many counties are undoubtedly below the actual Republican pluralities. There is every reason to believe that the official returns will show a plurality for McKinley of nearly 280,000. The Legisla- ture is almost entirely Republican, the Democratic representatives not exceeding 10 per cent in a membership of the lower house of 204. THe following shows the plurality in each county with the Republi- can gain, as compared with the vote for President in 1892 :} 1892 1896 . plur, plur = '¢ 2 pg 17 ® E 2 2.2 = 8 Countioes. z 2 = i 8 % = = 5 2 b on r E Bedford Berks. Republicans Claim They Have a Big Majority in the House.—Number for Free Silver.— White Metal Advocates, It Is Said, Will Be 150.—Outlook In The Upper Branch. ¢ WASHINGTON, Nov. 4.—The Republi- can congressional committee has reports showing 200 congressional districts are safely Republican. At the Democratic headquarters it is claimed unofficially that the Republican majority in the next house will not be more than 14. The Populists claifh 150 silver men and 20 Populists. Chairman Babcock received a dispatch from West Virginia saying all four Repub- lican Congressmen were elected. Chair- man Faulkner bad a dispatch saying Pen- dleton, Democrat, was elected in the Fourth district. Senator Faulkner also has dispatches claiming the election of Democrats in the following districts in Ohio : Lentz, Twelfth ; McDowell, Seventeenth ; Norton, Thirteenth; Marshall, Fourth Meekison, Fifth : Brenner in the Third, with the possibility of two others. An- other dispatch says Zenor, Democrat, in the Third Indiana district, was elected. The returns thus far received by the Associated Press on Congressional elections show that the Republicans will have a ma- jority of the next house, but they are too meager to permit an accurate approximate statement of relative strength, owing to the fact that over three-score votes have to be put in the doubtful, or unreported, column. The totals show 193 Republicans, 66 Democrats, 34 Populists and Independ- ents, and 64 unreported, or doubtful. From returns thus far received the next senate probably will stand as follows : Re- publican, 42; Democrats, 32; Independ- ents and Populists, 11 ; doubtful, 5; total, 90. On the currency question the senate undoubtedly will have an anti-silver ma- jority. The doubtful States are: Delaware, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina and South Dakota. The Republicans would need 45 with the vice-president to control the senate. The Republican senators who bolted the St. Louis ticket and platform are classed as independents. They are Teller, Dubois, Mantle and Cannon. An- other Utah senator to be elected to suceeed Brown will no doubt be an independent. Classed by States, the senate will stand as follows : Alabama, 2 Democrats ; Arkansas, 2 Democrats ; California, 1 Democrat and 1 Republican ; Colorado, 1 Republican and 1 Independent ; Connecticut, 2 Republi- cans ; Delaware, 1 Democrat and 1 doubt- ful ; Florida, 2 Democrats ; Georgia, 1 In- dependent ; Illinois, 2 Republicans ; In- diana; 1 Democrat and 1 Republican ; Towa, 2 Republicans ; Kansas, 1 Republi- can and 1 doubtful : - Kentucky, 1 Demo- erat and 1 doubtful ; Louisiana, 2 Demo- crats ; Maine, 2 Republicans ; Maryland, 1 Democrat and 1 Republican ; Massachu- setts, 2 Republicans ; Michigan, 2 Republi- cans; Minnesota, 2 Republicans ; Missis- sippi, 2 Democrats ; Missouri, 2 Demo- crats ; Montana, 1 Republican (Carter) and 1 Independent ; Nebraska, 1 Republi- can and 1 Populist ; Nevada, 2 Populists ; New Hampshire. 2 Republicans; New Jersey 1 Democrat and 1 Republican ; New York, 1 Democrat and 1 Republican ; North Carolina, 1 Populist and 1 doubtful ; i ney re North Dakota, 1 Repuplican and 1 Demo- crat ; Ohio, 2 Republicans; Oregon, 2 Republicans ; Pennsylvania, 2 Republi- cans; Rhode Island, 2 Republicans ¢ South Carolina, 2 Democrats ; South Da- kota, 1 Independent (Pettigrew) and 1 doubtful ; Tennessee, 2 Democrats ; Utah, 2 Independents ; Vermont, 2 Republicans ; Virginia, 2 Democrats ; Washington, 1 Republican and 1 Independent ; West Vir- ginia, 1 Democrat and 1 Republican ; Wisconsin, 1 Democrat and 1 Republican ; Wyoming, 2 Republicans. Badly Whipped. Next Congress Will Be All One Sided. NEW YORK, Nov., 3.—Up to midnight no returns had been received from which the result of the congressional contests in Alabama, California, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Texas and Washington could be deter- mined. The other States have probably elected 202 Republicans, 1 Sound Money, Democrat, 59 Democrats and 11 Silver Republicans and Populists. The Repub- lican will have a majority closely ap- proximating, it does not exceed that in the present house. The totals are now : Republicans, 252: Democrats 92; Popu- lists, Fusion and Silverites, 11. Many Victims of Storms. Bodies Washed Ashore Off the Spanish Coast. London, Nov. 3.—A dispatch from Mad- rid says that a large number of corpses are being washed up by the sea along the coast of the province of Huelva, and it is feared that the violent gales which have swept the Atlantic off the Spanish coast within the last few days have caused a great many shipwrecks. A sailing vessel foundered off Cartagena during the tempest and several of her crew were drowned. aE SCHED New Advertisments y EF. NOLL, M.
