It is said that the theaters,
opera houses and other places of
amusement were never so numer-
ous, nor so well patronized as
now ; that the first-classs hotels
and boarding-housesare crammed
and jammed full of guests, that
six thousand private carriages are
to be seen on a single afternoon
fraternization of them with ne-
groes is so vast ‘a job,” that ne-
cessarily slow work must be made
with it——very slow work—
and that «job” must be an in-
tensely long one, The more pa-
per money we make, to work the
job, the more paper money must
‘be made to work it——and hence
prices must go higher, and every-
thing become dearer and dearer.
We have a twenty years’ war be-
fore us, upon the principle of ne-
gro fraternity and equality confis-
cation, and extermination. In
two years and a half, we have
ext: rminated and desolated the
eastern slope of Virginia, the bor-
der counties in Missouri, a con—
siderable portion of Louisana—
but it is eighteen hundred miles
from the Pctomac to the Rio
Grande, and the desolation and
extermination of fiifty miles per
year, for eighteen hundred miles,

The war might be over, and
would be over, with a change of
administration, in six months—
because a new administration,
would change all this existing
programme.
1t would attempt, insist upon
and enforce the Unity end Indi-
visibility of the repnblic, and end
with nothiug short of it ; but it
would, at the same time, with
the sword, carry the olive brauch
and so, leaving ncthing for the
south to fight for, divide that
south, upon the principle of self-
government, and in the end, vol-
unary bring back this south.
The conservative policy tuw-
ard the south would Le such, that,
leaving the south nothing to fight
for, no secession or war party
could be maintained in that
south.

simple remidies, for certain disor-

as infalible :
For sea

For drunkenness—drink cold
water.
For accidents—keep out of

For fear of sheriffs—pay your

To do right—take home your

To sleep well—be industrious.
To have your memory blessed
