Tbe payment of both principal and interest is guaranteed by the State of Alabama, whose currency obligations sell in the market at 104. The total direct dent of the State Is only $6,0oo,ooo,and the indirect possible indebtedness, caused by its railway guarantees, amounts only to $8,000,000, making the maximum possible lndebted edness of the State belnw in,0()0,00fl, which sum is less than its debt in 1887, when an issue of bonds to the extent of tic.coo.ooo was made to establish a oankicg system, which debt was reduced by redemp tion to ,ooo, ooo in 1861, previous to the war.
