TBS MOTAMENSIHO BALL LAST EVENING A GOR GEOUS AND PAZZLING SPECTACLE LIdl OP PISTTHaClHHED VISITOKS. The event of Easter night the Moyamen sinar Ball which for days past has been an- rnounaed with such a display of gorgeous rhe toric, came oil last night at the Academy of Muaio, and was in reality as brilliant an affair as its most sanguine advocates promised. All yesterday workmen were engaged in laying thp ball-room floor, and in arranging tha innumerable details rendered necessary for the festival. The operations were some what delayed by the fall of a Uiuporarv chandelier over the stage in the morning, but the debris was soon cleared away, and tha work resumed. Last year the hall was gayly decorated with nags, banners, and streamers; (but this seemed to darken the scene, and after a long consultation the Committee of Arrangements determined to leave off all ornament to this part of the ball-room, and tha only decoration was an arrangement let down from the ceiling, by which the word 'Moyamensing" waa tastily made to appear in jets of came, surrounding the ngure of an Indian chief s head. In the rear of the stage proper a pleasant prove was formed by orange and lemon trees. all in full bloom, with the fruit hanging from them; over these again were suspended cao filled with singing birds, which warbled tones cf the sweetest mttlody constantly. Scattered throe eh the grove were miniature fountains. which, instead of water, poured forth streams of oolocne and other perfumes, in which many of tha ladisa copiously laved their hand kerchiefs and thus imparted the genial scent throughout the room. Prtbtnt upon tha floor were two band of muftio, Hauler's string band for dancing, and the celebrated brass band of the 9 in New York Regiment, which was to play daring the intermission between the dances. Lieutenant Flaherty had a large foroe of police in the building, and managed them in such a manner that the most perfect order prevailed up to midnight, at which hour we eft. At 8 r. M. the brass band Btrnck up a pirited march, and Dr. Gilbert, the master of ceremonies, leading, his lady entered from the north fly, and behind him came Robert Lister Smith and lady, and for fifteen minntes the procession continued, until the groat floor was covered. When the music ceased, and after some minutes, Hassler struck up, and the grand ball was fairly in progress. Many of the ladies were dressed most magnificently, and it would be impossible to describe the texture, colors, and cost of the splendid appa rel tLat was witnessed on tho iloor. By 10 o'clock the building had become un comfoitnbly crowded, as even the audience tickets for spectators in the upper tiers sold in large numbers. People continued to arrive until twelve o'clock, but at eleven o'clock quite a sensa tion was created by the arrival of a delega tion from New York, consisting of Sheriff O'Biien, Henry Harvey, Colonel Andrew Shtnuan, Justices Dowling and McCnnn, Hon. Lawrence O'Brien, Hon. John Fox, end also Dr. II. J. Stockton and Hon. Chas. McKeown of Baltimore, John Stewart, M. T. Brennan, and lion. Edward Curry of Boston. Later there arrived Wni. M. Tweed, Jr., J. C. Heenan, Col. Jus. Fisk, John Murray, J. H. Ford, Michael Purcell, and Jas. Carey, of New York. Alderman McMullin also received the fol lowing despatch from the association named, whic h was also holding a ball in New York: "The Thomas J. Creamer Association sends congratulations to the Moyamensing Associa tion. Hoping our Philadelphia frionds are enjoying the Enster festival, we are, etc., William M. Tweed, n. W. Genet, Peter B. Mann, District Attorney Sheppard, ex-Treasurer Joseph N.
