Nine Jolly Tara Daa's I.Ike to Cat lee la Cold Wrather-Thy are Drummed OH League Inland to (Jooequeorea Yesterday morning nine of Uncle Sam's mari ners came to grief in a curious way. The niue aien in qnestiun, who belonged to the company of the ship 8t. Louis, bad been ordered to cut ice for storage in the ice-house from which the ollicers and men on duty at League Island are supplied in summer. The weather was rather cold, and the work consequently rather dis tasteful. The nine tars kept at it for a lime. hut iinally concluded to succumb to the weather and adjourn to their comfortable quarters on board the 8t. Louis. This they did without orders or leave, and made their complaint to the oflicer of the deck. This odlcer referred the matter to the executive ollieer of the station, who at once had the nine men ranged in a row on deck, ana placed la double Irons, for refusing to do duty. They were then sent below, but in a short time their irons were re moved by order of the commodore of the sta tion, and the sensitive seamen were paid np in mil ana mustered ont ot the naval service. They were marched off the island under guard. and eet at liberty at the gates, from which they made their way to the city on foot. It is more than probable that they are now repenting the weakness lor warmth which induced them to abandon their work on the Ice. Helplessly Dbcnk. Yesterday afternoon, two boys, aged respectively ten and twelve years, were found helolesslv drnnk on the ice in the Bchnyiklll. They were taken to the station-hou-e, where they gave Information to the effect that Rosanna McGinnis, residing at Twenty-fifth ua Hamilton streets: Joan Hughes.
