Two brothers, named Henry and Charles McGnican, aged respectively 11 and 13 years, were drowned yesterday morning, at Otis street wharf. One of the brothers got be yond his depth and the other attempted to save him, bnt was seized by the other, and both went down together. The bodies were recovered in the course of the afternoon, and the Coroner was notified to hold an inquest, James McQee, oil years of age, residing in "Westminster Btreet, West Philadelphia, was received into the Hospital last evening with sovere injuries, a broken jaw, bruises upon the body, and cuts in the face. McGee was found in his stable in West Philadelphia, in an insensible condition, and the story told at the Hospital was that he had a quarrel with a colored man, who beat him in the manner indicated, and laid him under the horses' feet to be trampled to death. The Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania of the United Order of the Sacred Temple of Liberty, held its annual session yesterday, at the cor. of Franklin and Poplar streets. Grand Mas ter P. A. Buzby presided. The following officers, elected for the ensuing year, were installed last evening: Grand Master, "Will II. n. Davis; Deputy Grand Master, Frederick M. "Wagner; Grand Marshal, Henry Hunterton; Grand Chaplain, Peter Wister; Grand Trea surer, Walter Morris; Grand Herald, Edward "W. Kramer; Grand Tyler, John Cox; Grand Conductress, Emma W. Woodley; Grand Goddess of Liberty, Annie Lamark; Trustees, Charles "W. Morrison and George L. Horner. Though the heat was not as oppressive yesterday as on the three or four days pre viously, its effects were seen in the number of sudden deaths and of peases of sunstroke not attended with fatal results. Frank Freeborn, aged forty-five years, residing in Front street, above Girard ave nue, died yesterday from the effect of the heat. Francis Kennedy, aged forty-five years, residing in Nineteenth street, below Fitz water, fell dead yesterday in the stone yard on Callowhill street, above Broad, from the same cause. He leaves a widow and three children. Thomas Stoll, aged twenty-three, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, from Thirteenth and Girard avenue, yesterday, and died from the same cause. Jacob Simons, aged twenty-eight years, residing at No. D39 North Third street, died yesterday from the same cause. Inquests in the above cases were held by deputy Coroner John C. Sees. Edward Buckley, 55 years old, residing in Buckley street, was received into the Hospi tal yesterday afternoon, suffering from the heat. James Devine, residing on York avenue, was received into the same institution, with sunstroke. A large and enthusiastic meeting of our German citizens was held last night, in Lad ner's Hall, on Third street, below Green. Its object was to inaugurate a movement for the creation of a fund for the aid and relief of those of their former country who may be wounded or rendered widows or orphans by the coming struggle between Prussia and France. Dr. E. Morwitz was called to the chair, ne made a brief but effective ad dress, at the conclusion of which F. W. Thomas was selected to act as Vice-President, and Robert Friedlander, Dr. Julius Hein and Theodore Kell, as Secretaries. Dr. Kell ner being introduced, addressed the meet ing, explaining at length the causes of the war and its vital importance. He sketched the efforts of the French in past year3 to de spoil Germany of a portion of her territory, to create a diversity of sentiment in the Ger man people and thereby cause dissensions among them, and the determination of the ' 'nephew of my uncle" to prevent at all hazards the unity of tne uerman people, llis refer ences to Napoleon and Bismarck were greeted, the former with jeers and Hisses, and tne lat ter with great applause. At the conclusion of his speech the German's "Fatherland" was sung amid great enthusiasm. Addresses were also made by Professor J. Hoffman and others. On motion the President was instructed to appoint a committee of thirty-one, of which six should be members of the German Society, to further the purposes or tne meeting. Domeatlo Affairs. Graham, the county seat of Alamance county, N. 0., has been placed under martial law. In "Washington yesterday the thermo meter indicated a temperature of ninety-nine decrees. Mr. Frelinghuysen's commission as Min ister to England was signed by the President yesterday. There is a rumor in New York that Prus sia has made proposals for the purchase of the Stevens battery. Comptroller liulburd is in receipt or a great many letters from gentlemen who wish to establish new banks. The Georgia Legislative Committee has acquitted Governor Bullock of the charges - brought against him. General Grierson reports that the Chey- ennes seek to provoke a Hostility to tne In dians which will drive them all on the war cath. He does not believe, however, that a -general combination can be effected. Three murders by Indians are reported from Fort Sill, Indian Territory. This results from a feeling of sympathy between the two nations." PLON-r-LON AS A GENERAL. Prince Napoleon had arrived, and had a long interview with the Emperor. It is un derstood that an army corps will be immedi ately formed and placed under command of the Prince. BANQUET TO ARMY OFFICERS. 'A grand dinner was given by the Emperor at St. Cloud yesterday, after the council of war. The principal officers of the regi ment of the line and Imperial Guard, who are" on tne eve of leaving Paris, were present. They testified in the most enthusiastic man ner their devotion to the Emperor, and the band played the Marseillaise. AlIBASSADOHS ORDERED TO Qt'IT. It is reported that the Ambassadors of Baden, Norway, Hesse, Bavaria, and Wurtom burg have been ordered to quit Paris. EXPLOSIVE BULLETS. France has notified Prussia that she will not use explosive bullets if Prussia will not. THE NEXT EFFORT FOR TEACE. After the first battle has been fought, all the powers in Europe will make an effort to stop the conflict. THE CATHOLICS OF SOUTH GERMANY are reported to be opposed to Prussia. TRUSSIAN SPIES. Eight Prussian officers have been seized in btrasburg as spies. FRENCH VOLUNTEERING. One hundred thousand volunteers have en rolled their names in Paris and the depart ments. NEUTRALITY OF BELGIUM, HOLLAND, AND RUSSIA. Brussels, July 19. France has communi cated to the powers notification that she has entered into reciprocal engagements with Belgium and Holland, insuring their neu trality. France is also in active negotiation with llussia to obtain a formal promise of n entrality. CENSORSHIP OF TELEGRAPHIC NEWS. London, July 10. Surveillance has been established in Paris over the telegraph, which prevents the forwarding of any news unfa vorable to tne Uovernment. A PEACE DEMONSTRATION SUPPRESSED. The authorities on Saturday night foroibly put a stop to a riotous demonstration of the peace party in Paris, unousands of men waving white nags marched tnrougn the streets shouting "Vive la 1'aix." A collision with the troops was at one time imminent. The Prefect of Police on Sunday ordered that all demonstrations in the streets should be suppressed. AUSTRIA JOINING FRANCE. London, July 19. It is positively asserted here to-day, on what is regarded as the highest authority, that Austria joins France against Prussia. ITALIAN MILITARY RESERVES. Florence, July 19. The Italian Govern- ment has called out two classes of military re serves as a precautionary measure. THE ENGLISH PARLIAMENT. London, July 19.
