Incidentals. 8an Francisco papers report large receipts of strawberries, of tolerably good quality, but as yet undecided in flavor. For twenty years California has been pro ducing gold, silver, copper ore, hides, and oiuer articles ussd in manufactures, transporting them to her seaports and sending them thence to New York, Boston, or Liverpool, to be manufactured and returned over the same thousands of miles, enhanced in cost very largely In addition to the expense of manufacture. Now California pro poses to go into the business of manufacturing for herself. A wise conclusion. Tbe St. Paul I'ress prints a long communi cation from a lady who opposes female suffrage, and who, in her enthusiasm, breaks into parodic poetry at the close, of which the following ttanza is a specimen: "The vote that all are praising Is not the vote for me ; Its oUims are so amazing, I'd rather far be free. But there's a vote In yonder crib, A baby vote, clear, shrill, and glib, That vote Is worth the raising, And that's the vote for met Oh 1 that's the vote for me !" A letter from Jackson, Mississippi, to the Springfield Republican says: "Two murders a week are our regular rations. Sometimes we have more, sometimes less. It depends on whe ther the whisky for the week Is imported from Yazoo flats or from Vicksburg. As I came up into the city, near the corner of Pearl street, I saw two men with shot guns. I wondered what game there might be In the vicinity. Having reached the corner of the First National Bank, however, I came suddenly upon a crowd of men who were watching these two gunners. From exclamations that were dropped as I passed through, I concluded that if those knights of the shot guns were waiting for bipeds, they were not feathered. They were Indeed waiting for a man named Dalgreen to come out of a drug store. Sometimes these men miss fire; that U why the street was drained of passengers as I came up." CITY 1TE91S. We were all suffer ing from the 'national disease' indigestion ; and all agreed on one point, viz., that nothing agreed with . We discussed medicines. One had tried blue pills, an other extract of dandelion, another almost every variety of purgatives. In fact, we had made apothecaries' shops of our inaides ; bat nothing had done ns any good. I aid I wondered if your Plantation Bittebs would help ns any. After aome talk we conoluded to try it, and meet again at the same place that day month, to oom pare notes. ' We did so. It was a jovial meeting, I can tell yon. We scarcely knew one another. Each had gained flesh ; each reported a good appetite, sound sleep, an easy stomach, and a regular habit of body. The change was marvaliou. It was agreed to report the facts to you, and 1 waa appointed to make this communication.
