THE DAILY EVENING TELEGRAPH PHILADELPHIA, SATURDAY, APRIL 30, 1870. 6 A DESPERATE FKJI1T. Pnri'mlnr. of ibe AttniU no n Nherltl'x Posse In Tranemro lynrh Imvt Thrnn(nrl. We gather from Western exchanges additional facts concerning the outrage at Glasgow Junction, Tcnn., previously reported by telegraph. On Sunday last a man named Shlves. who Is repre sented to be a desperate man, who lives at South Tunnel, near Gallatin, Tenu., hat who, for soma time past, has been at work on the Glasgow Branch Railroad, went Into the store of Mr. Kodemer, at Glasgow .In net I on, and, after selecting such articles as he desired, attempted to leave without paying for them. The clerk lu the store, who is a cripple, re monstrated with him, when Shlves drew a knife and stabbed the clerk, Inlllctlng a dangerous wound, and then beat him in a brutal manner. Shlves then left the town before he could be arrested. On Tuesday be returned to the town accompanied by his brother. The shculTof the county, Immediately arter their ap pearance, summoned a psse, surrounded the despe radoes, and called upon them to surrender. This they refUHed to do, and drew their pistols. The sherlir then ordered the poBse to fire upon them, and two shots were tired, one of which took efTnct In the arm or one of the Shlveses, disabling him. The other brother returned the lire, 11 ring four or live snots, one of which took effect In the abdomen of Mr. W. K Proctor, son of Mr. I J. Procter, proprie tor of the Mammoth Cave and Glasgow Junction Hotels, Inflicting a wound which It Is feared; will prove mortal. Another shot penetrated the breast ol Mr. James, asKlHiatit civil engineer of the Glas gow branch road, indicting a fatal wound. Another ball took effect In the leg of Mr. Stuart, Inflicting a herious wound. Hut few of the sheriff 8 posse were nrmed, and the robbers being each armed with four navy revolvers, succeeded In escaping to the wood. The gentlemen wounded by the rnlllaus were among the most estimable citizens of the place, and the affair created the most Intense excitement. The citizens rallied from all quarters, armed and mounted themselves, and, with packs of hounds, started In pursuit or tno fugitives, and, after a vigorous search, came upon them In tho woods. The one who hud been shot was lying concealed behind a leg, nearly dend from the loss of blood, which he had heeujunanlo to staunch. The other, seeing It was useless to contend against such odil-t, surrendered, but was bold and dellant, saying that if his brother had not been wounded they could have successfully resisted tho whole party, and also hwore that he would kill one of the posse making the arrest. Thev were taken to Glasgow Junction and placed In a 'blacksmith shop, which was Bur rounder! by a heavy guard. At lvt accounts the wounded men were still alive but very low. The excitement In the community Is most Intense, and there Is a strong disposition to wreak summary vengeance upon the desperadoes; and, If any of the wounded men should die and there Is hardly a pos sibility of their recovery It is more thun probale that the exasperated citizens will take them from the hands of the officers and hang them to the nearest tree. The great popularity of " H'fAor's Compound of Cod Lirfr Oil and lime" has in duced some unprincipled parsons to attempt to palm off a simple article of tboir own manufacture; but any person who is suffering from Coughs, Colds, or Consump tion should bo careful where they purchase this article. It requires no puffins ; tho results following its use are its best recommendations, and tho proprietor has ample evi dence on file of its eitraordinary success in pulmonary complaints. The phosphate of lime possesses a most marvellous healing power, as combined with the pure Cod Liver Oil by Dr. Wilbor. This medicine is regularly pre scribed by the medical faculty. For sale by A.
