The Republican City Executive Commttteo rives notice of a mcutiiiir of Republicans next 1 ucstluy, nt the various places of holding elec tion, for the purpose of correcting the registry for the delegate, election. On Tuesday week the Republicans will meet in their respeetiuodivlslons to elect delegates to a Senatorial and Represen tative Convention, the object being to elect dele eiitcs to the State Convention, which meets next June. This Is a subject of Importance to the Republican party, and the member thereof will doubtless take a deep interest therein. Last evening, about 11 o'clock, fire was dis covered in the northern portion of tho largo rink, 1 wenty-flrst and Race streets. Owing to the combustible nature of the Interior of the building, the Haines quickly spread throughout the structure, and li a few minutes tho fire was seen issuing from every portion. Tho wind from the north assisted the spread of the flames, and in less than half an hour after the fire was first discovered the immense arched roof fell in with a crash. The building was erected during last summer, and designed as a Skating ICiiik. ' It had a front of 150 fest OU Knee street, and ex tended to Cherry, a distance of S K) lect. The structure was of frame work, covered with cor rugated sheets of thin iron, and during tho pro gress of the lire these fell one by one to the ground, leaving the shell of the building stand ing for some time after the roof had fallen In. Although intended ns a Skating Rink, it was iificd for that purpose ,Ut a few times during the w inter. A velocipede school was opened is it about three months ago, and it Was still used for that purpose when It wus destroyed. The prin cipal entertainment given . in the building was that on Monday evening, under the auspices of the Odd Fellows. The building was owned by a stock company, and co;-t about 1K),000, on which there is an Insurance of fc-HMMK). The in tense heat placed the surrounding property In great jeopardy, but, owing to the exertions of the firemen, no damage was done beyond the destruction of the Rink. The Swcdcuhorgiun church on Cherry street was at one time in great danger, but tho several streams of water on It saved it. A married woman, residing in the lower part of the city, left her home yesterday morn ing, and went to Kaighu's Point lurry, above South street. She paid her fare, as though she intended to go across the river, and as soon us slit had walked on the boat, jumped over board, evidently intending to drown herself. By means of a boat-hook she was drawu out, but not before she had made an attempt to tear her dress loose from the hook. She was sub pcnuently handed over to the care of her friends. The suicidal attempt is attributed to domestic troubles. John C. Addis, Jr., has been appointed an Assistant Assessor in the Third Collection dis trict. Mr. William R. Leeds.
