Mr. King moved to fix the time as January. 1S70. Mr. Hopkins contended that this would not give tho company sullicientUmo to erect a new depot. Mr. King said that the present depot will not be interlined with, as it has been built in an ticipation of the street being opened at some ' time. Ho was surprised that tha people in that locality had not demanded this improvement long ago, and urged tho immediate opening of the street. The following communication was roccivod frcm the street contractors: To the Councils of Philadelphia: Gentlemen Under the act of March 18, leMI, tho Board of Health, on tho third day of April advertised tor proposals for cleansing the city, and they have indicated that they will consider thein on the 15th instant. We had been advised that the legal effect of that act was to supersede our contracts, and wo have only continued al ter its passage because of our desire to prevent our districts becoming lilt by by reason of the time which the Board would necessarily allow in making arrangements for the performance of their duly. Alter, however, the appearance of the advert isement, a further contiuuauco on our part inight be ascribed to an intention to prevent an execution of the powers of the Board. To avoid misapprehension, we shall, therefore, stop work on the night of the 14th, and shall claim pay on the basis of our con tracts up to that date.
