Mr. P. Ii. Dewitt, of Michigan, offered a scries of resolutions-in relation to church music, for tho next Triennial Convention. Tho mover complained of the character of music used in Protestant Episcopal entireties, and likened it to opera music. Future Meetings) of the Convention. Mr. J. U. Uoc, of Wisconsin, offered a resolution that the next meeting of tho Convention bo not held in a consecrated church. He thought that many of the proceedings of the Convention were not proper to occur in a consecrated church. Rev. Dr. Rylance, of Illinois, thought that a Chap ter House should be used for the Conventions, and thought that the future great metropolis of the coun try, Chicago, would be the best, locution. Mr. 8. It. Huggles, of New York, thought that if a church building was too good for a convention, they should never be held in n doercratej house. Ko action was taken on the Eubject. Tlie t'ae of Tobacco. Mr. William Welsh, of Philadlpbl, Chairman of the Committee on Arrangements, remarked that both clerical and lay deputies used tobacco during the ses sions of the Convention, und the Kector aud owners oi the church com plained of it. Mr. 8. B. Kuggles, of New York, thonght the Con vention should not degrade itself before the public by the indiscreet remarks of certain members, and be hoped the matter wonld be dropped. The eubject was theu laid on the table. Committee on Expenses. The Committee on Expenses then reported in favor Of increasing the tax on dioceses for the purposes of the Convention from $2 per minister to S3. They nlnn authorized the navment of S750 to the Secretary (of the House of Bishops, and 250 to the Secretary of Clerical and Lay Deputies, which was agreed to. Rev. Dr. Hubbard, of New Hampshire, protested against the action of the Convention yesterday, in tabling the report of the Committee on Prayer Book ; but be was corrected by some of the members, and the President stated that the report was not tabled, bat Simply withdrawn. A Conference Committee. The Itev. Dr. Rylance, of 111., made a motion that a Committee of two be appointed to confer with tho House of Bishops, in relation to the concludiug ser- Elces of the Convention. Agreed to. , On motion of 8. B. Ruggles of N. Y., five thousand opies of the proceedings of the Convention wore urdf red to be printed. I Alterations iu the Prayer Book. I The Rev. Dr. liaigbt, ot New York, from the Com- tmittee on Canons, reported in favor of using tho al tered stereotype plates in producing any future addi- ion of the standard Prayer Book, but adding notes tatiug the changes made, aud pointing out the inter- !olatious. Agreed to. The Trlnl of Ministers. The Rev. Dr. Dwight, from the Committeo on 'anons, icported certain amendments iu Canon II, iTitle No. 2, prescribing tho offenses for which presbyters should be tiled. The usw canon is a ver batim transcript of the like canon iu relation to the glial of Bishops. Rev. Dr. Adams, of Wisconsin, moved to make one pt tbo triub'.e offenses, "contumacy to ecclesiastical Authority after censure or admonition." He thought hat it would be a very good thiug to have the priests rled for contumacy. Rev. Dr. Haigbt I have no doubt of it. (Laughter). The amendment was not accepted, and on motion f Rev. Dr. Haight, tbo matter was laid upon the Stable for future action. The offenses named in this proposed canon are clasnlfled as follows: f Every member or the Church shall be liable to pre sentment and trial on charges lor tho following of- ieuces: 1. Crime or immorality. - 3. Holding and teaching publicly or privately and idvisedly any doctrine contrary to tint hold by the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States. 13. Violation of the Constitution or Cauone of the general Convention. 4. Violation of the Constitution or Canons of the fiocese to which lie belongs. 7. The poor discarded epileptic uttendei, as a bridesmaid, his second marriage, which was solem nized by a minister of this chu rch. He wished to put an end at once to such abominations. Rev. Dr. Jacob 1,. Clark, of Connecticut, referred to the fact that In some parts of New England, mention ing especially Essex county, in Massachusets, one tenth part of the marriages is of persons who have been divorced from a husliansl or wife. Strong argu ments were made against tho common practice ot liberal divorces, and a clerical deputv from North Carolina denounced divorce as a sin before God and man, which will call upon this land the direct ven geance of heaven.
