A Siuep hut UfisuccESSFUL Gamb. On
Faturday last, before AltWman White, C. H.
Wadsworth, alias John II. Wentworth, was ar
raigned upon a somewhat novel charge. It ap
pears that on the 13ih of September last he pre
sented hiojeelt at the Fidelity Insurance Trut
and Sale Deposit Compiiny's office, No. 421
C hef-nut i-lreet, and represented thit he was a
lawyer of pocd practice, residing and doiusr
business at Trenton, New Jer.-ey; that he wai
acting lor orpbaa children In New Jersey, and
that he hud tbe afiairs ot their estates to settle
up, and that he had in his cure f 182G-34, belong
ing to them. This he wished to deposit with
the company, not only tor cafe keeping, but four
ptr cent, iutereft. Instead of depositing the
money, he pave a check for the amount,
drawn to tbe order of Mr. Harrison,
I'at-hier ol the Dordeutown "Notional Bank,
aud alo requested ibat the company should
give him in return for his check two certidca'es
ol depot-it, each beariug on its face a voucher
for one-half of the deposit made. This was done.
Afterwards, however, when the company drew
on Mr. llarriron for the amount, they learned
that he ( Harmon) had no acquaintance with
Wadsworth, uud that the latter bad no money
deposited in the bank to bis credit. Mr. J. W.
Hazleburst, Assistant Secretary of the Com
pany, utter receiving th e letter, at once ap
peared before Alderman John White and made
complaint. A warrant was issued lor the arrest
of Wadsworth, aed placed in the hand9 ot De
tective Schlemru, who proceeded to New York
and there arreted the accused. Wadsworth.
'was committed in default ot $3000 bail lor a fur
ther hearing on the 21st iit.

and as far as the eye could reach, presented a

tie New Jersey shore met with considerable dif
ficulty. The Kngle expended some hour and a
half on her tir.-t trip, and the up-river ferries
experienced a like delay. The City Ice Boat,
howevt r, came into tbe held aud steamed down
in front of tbe city, coailug up with the 11 od to
Port ltichmoud, our principal coal deposit, in
order to enable tbe di(lernt colliers at that
point, to go below with the ebb. The S.ixon
came up to her berth In the afternoon. Tiifs
were engaged .In clearing the various wharves
at which steamers were exoected. The wind
was from the uortheat, and the thermometer
fallitg. The Ice Boat was exneced to go down
with the ebb last evening an J probably did so.

last, took place yesterday afternoon from the

from S to 8 fathoms, low water springs, and range
from the entrance to abreast Ponillla. On each buoy
Is marked tbo depth of water in which the buoy la
nioored.
