The attention ol chewers Is called to the Im proved qualiiy ot the Ceutury Tobacco, which we trust will prove satls'actory to all who may try it. Important Explanation. It will be many months before the various triumphs and defeats experienced at the Paris Exposition will be fully understood by the public In the field of Sewing Machines considerable controversy has been awakened, one company claim, ing this and another that of the honors conferred. It bag now transpired, however, that, notwithstanding the Qrever & Baker Machines were not on exhibition fit all, they received the highest distinction. The faot that the Grover & Baker Sewing Machines are equa1 to anyother machines in all respects, and superior In many to auy other sewing machines extant, is now a matter of world-wide notoriety. Under these clrcumstanoes, triumph by actual competition for the one thousandth time, was unnecesrsay. Suffice it to say that the representative of the Grover & Baker Machine, who was present at the Exhibition, was decorated with the Cross of the Legion of Honor, thus receiving the highest award In the power of the Commission to bestow. The fact, also, that this gen man was placed on the international Jury necessarilT excluded the machines be represented from competl tlon. but the honor conferred upon him an the repre. ti-ntative of lite bent seining machine In the. icorM was cer talnly the very highest compliment that could have been paid to the O rover A Baker Machines. Indian Sommeb. It is an easy matter to make an Indian "some;" that can be done by clothing him in the styles sold at Charles Stokes A Co.'s Flrat-Class 'Clothing House, under the Continental; that will make anybody 'some;' but to make an Indian sum n er. It requires the month or November to be clothed In Ihe balmy atmosphere of May. Quite an Excitbmknt. The handsome steel plate engravings given to purchasers of stock in aid or the Riverside Institute may be seen, day and even ing, on exhibition at the new ollloe, No. til Chesnut street. The engravings are so arranged as to be seen by passers-by, and large crowds are constantly congre gated In and around the ortlce. The Panama Star and Herald of the 1st lust has advices from Central anil HwuUi America. An- attempt had boeu made to net up a revolution- In Costa Hlca, Central America, which has proved unsuccessful. According to the statistics the number of deaths from cholera In the Department of Leone, Nicaragua, alone, from tho 21th of March to the 12lh of September amounted to 1188. A treaty has been made between Nicaragua and the United States, and Is on the way to Washington. The construction of a railroad across Nica ragua is more of a problem than ever, as its feasibility Is not yet proven by the survey made. The Congress had failed to convene on the day fixed, for want of a quorum. After much skirmishing for several days, a session was ob tained, and business was proceeded with. New discoveries of guano had been made, one of which was by a citizen of the United States. Owing to the want of rain, the crops are en dangered. The report that a truce had been agreed upon between Spain and the allies Is doubled. The Inhabitants of the South are suffering greatly for food. Tbe revolution in Peru Is gaining ground. Frado Is at the bead ot 43,000 troops, and Is marching against the revolutionists, but ex pects a stout resistance. In Ecuadoran open rupture had taken place between the Executive and the Legislature, and several members of Congress were arrested on suspicion of being revolutionists, bu finally the President agreed to release them and withdraw his troops If Congress would ap point a committee to consult with him and settle the matter, which was consented to. The obnoxious Home Secretary resigned, and every thing became harmonious. Advices from Buenos Ayres had been re ceived, but they contain no news.
