I he proceedings 'were opencl with prayer by the Rv. Dr. HatflilJ, of New York. On motion ol Rev. Dr. McLean, the Commit tee on Permanent Organization were Instructed to appoint a business committee. The names ot the proposed committees as read by Her. O. Duflield were adopted. The Committee on CredentiiilR, through thcrr Chairman. Kev. J. Howard Suyilnm, made their report, which was received, aud after the read ing of the names, ndopted. On motion ot Rev. Dr. ShcuUnn, Dr. Hall was invited to a seat as a cerrespunding member of the Convention. Rev. Or. KpRleston moved that a committee, to consist ot two members of each de nomination, be appointed to prepare a basis ol union lor the bodies represented, in the Convention. The motion culled forth considerable discus ston, in the eoutte ot which Kev. Dr. Breckin ridge artrued the impossibility of pcrlct'itmr. a liB.-is that would ineel with the approbation of all repiesented. After further debate, which was participated in by Kev. Pre. 1). W. McLean, Donaldson, and Mart-bail, Kev. Wilson Fianier moved that the subject be referred to the Committee on Ar raneements. Kev. Dr. Mucprave opposed the motion to refi r, believing that an organic union was not only possible but practicable. The motion win linullv withdrawn. The qnegtmn then bciu put, the original mo tion was adooted. Kev. Mr. Drattou offered the following resolu tion: Inasmuch as this Convention in its oreanlzu tion has departed Iroin tho plan proposed by the Reformed l'restjyterian Church, therefore lipfoitfd, That tins Convention bu regnrded as the Convention of the day. Laid on the table. During a debate on a motion to take tip the resolution lrom the table lor consideration, a motion to ailjourn was mad" and adopted. Alter prajer offered by Kev. Dr. Davis, the Convention adjourned. EVENING BKHBION. The Convention reassembled at 7i o'clock, the President in the chair. Kev. Dr. Steel, ol Ohio, opened the proceedings with prayer. The report of tho Committee on Credentials was adopted. The resolution of Rev. Mr. Brattou wfts then discussed at length. ltev. Dr. Fisher, of New York, offered a reso lution as a substitute, providing that tn all cases involving the direct action or terms on the b-isis ot union, the vote of the Couvcn'.iuu shall be. taken by . churches, aud in other cases in the usual manner, unless otherwise ordered by t!ie House. This substitute was lost, and the original reso lution was adopted. On motion ot Dr. March the Convention went into a conlerence on the subject of the Union. Addresses were made by Kev. Mdssrs. Blair, of Pennsylvania; Miller, of Ogdensburir, N. Y.; Leonard, of Iowa; Wayne, of Pennsylvania; Marsh, of Ohio, aud others. At the conclusion of these remarks, in which all expressed themselves in favor ot a union with other branches of the Church upon a com mon basis, if it were practicable, the Rev. Dr. Hodge offered up a lervent prayer, the whole assemblage rising. Mr. Stuart read a letter from Dr. Guthrie, ol . Scotland, in relation to the progress ol the cauo in that section of the world. This was followed by an address by the Rev. Morris V. Sutphin, of New York. It was shown that atter re ceiving the nutmees Beecher sold them to a party named Miller, In Race street, for ninety cents a pound.
