An Enterprising Lawyer. About 11 o'clock
this morning r lawyer entered a broker's offlce on
Third street, and requested the privilege of looking at
certain documents bearing upon a case In which be
was engaged. The papers were submitted to him
without any suspicions of his Intention, when the en
terprising attorney deliberately Btarted for the door.
But he was a moment too late, and before he could
make bis way to tbe street, he found himself on bis
buck on tbe floor, with two "beats" upon him.
The enterprising attorney did what he could, but he
found himself powerless In the hands ot two strong
men, and was forced to give up the stoleu documents.
A policeman was then called In. and requested to
bold the prostrate man In his undignified posture
until the papers were securely stowed away In tbe
lire-proof. The brokers then informed tbe nollceman
that tliev had no desire to prosecute the offender, but
would be greatly obliged to him If be would conduct
the lawyer to the street. This request was compiled
w ith, the attorney, as be reluctantly left the office,
remarking that "he merely desired to have the papers
recorded." This Is decidedly the most Ingenious legal
proceeding that nas come under qui- notice of late.
