The steamship North America, from New York, tna landed 148 emigrants In Montevideo, and BOO more are expected from Mobile. They are aid to be a very active olaoa of men, and are at once going to work to cultivate the ground. The American steamship Brooklyn ar rived In Jtahiii on the 6t h Instant, on her way to the United States. The new monitor Rio Grande was lanncbed at Hlo Janeiro on the j7tb Instant. The Bpanish iron-clud frigate Nnmancla left Klo Janeiro on the loth for Europe, to be repaired. Montevideo, August 30. Themost Important topics of Interest are tbe revolts which take place In the lntetlor of the Argentine Hepubllc, l tie question about capital puntHhinents, de bated In the Legislative body; and tne slee of Ilumaita. The province of Cordova has risen, la InBnrrectlon against the Government; Seve rn! public officials, and even tbo Minister of War, wbo had been sent by the Central Govern ment, were Imprisoned, aud several battalions of National iuard have led for tbe sceneof dis order to restore order. Heveral other provinces are expected to Tlse unless the war Is speedily terminated; and General Urqulza, the enemy of tbe alliance wllli Brazil, Is suiu to excite the people to revolt, llie allied forces are besieging and bombarding the fortress of Ilumaita, where Lopee, the Dictator of Paraguay, keeps himself at present, after having been routed out of all his strong positions; and It is expected he must soon capitulate. Thus the war is Actually drawing to a close. J'wtocWpeum jrom the beat of the War. An en gagement has taken place between a body of the allied troops and a detachment of the enemy. The Paraguayans had 160 men killed and a great many wounded; an olllcer and about 20 soldiers were taken prisoners. The passage of Curupaity has been forced. The squadron has effected the passage without being affected by the numerous torpedoes, Which the skill of the pilots has known how to avoid. At 11 o'clock in the morning the squa dron arrived at the port of Ilumaita, and com menced to open fire at 2 P. M., tho strongest battery of the fort answering the tire. The squadron of Humalta keeps its communication opeu with Curnpally by means of an impro vised road. At tbe time of the departure of the mail boat, news reach us to tbe efleet thai the bombardment of Humalta continues, and that the bleamboat Tamandarc, whiuh had her ma chinery damaged, is repaired and ready again for action. The shipping news of the port of Montevideo is of a cheerful character, and trade is on tbe Increase. Out of the(i7i vessels which arrived during the first quarter of 187, '15 have unloaded their cargoes at that place. The. number of vessels arrived in the ports of the Argentine Republic, Paraguay, and the Oriental Kepublio is 1(118, carrying 810,676 tons. Thernuuiber of passengers arrived from Europe during the same period amounts to 12,667. Business in general has been rather animated. Hides for export to the United States and France have been much in demand. Wool is only ualable in fine qualities and at reduced prices. FASHIONS FOR OCTOBER. From Le Follet. According to the great preparations being made in tun Paris liouaes, H tip pears that the coming winter season will abound In novelties. Many new patterns tor toe make of bodies have been ehowu by the modintn. San-Bed as they are that the gored ekirts will be etill preferred, . they think that the bodies miht still be ren dered a little more varied and Graceful. Ttiev are making tuein open in frout, in "Loals XV" tyle, lull back ttud front, cut square or in fioints, corselets a la I'rlneew, etc. But one hing of which we cau speak moro decidedly is, that they will be more trimmed tban they have been latterly. As for sleeves, we And the wide, open make Is frradually reappearing, The long dress also, it not made of broehe material, Is much trimmed, and we see that short costumes are rather moro elaborately ornamented than formerly. Thus frequently the upper skirt will be trimmed with a let fringe, headed with an embroidery of Jet, the under skirt merely having an embroidery without fringe. For simpler costume the material being alpaca, mohair, etc. both skirts are usu ally Just finished off by a plisee of the same, or perhaps lozenges of taffetas, matching the color of tbe dress. These lozenges, made in satin on taffetas drees, are very pretty. Black taffetas robes are still very much trimmed round the bottom with an embroidery of jet beads. Short costumes of striped velvet are very ds ttngue. These, of course, are quite without trimming, the upper skirt being draped with large buttons or silk cord and tassels. The Maile Antoinette fichu is universally ad mired indeed, just now it maybe called quite' "the thing." It is made in all kinds of lace (black and white), muslin, net of the same ma terial as the dress worn, and also of . black taffetas prettily trimmed, and has been worn both as out-door and in-door dress. For the former, of course, the season is now too far ad vanced, but it seems as mdeh liked as ever, and will retain its place as in-door costume. Lace is extremely fashionable, both woollen aud silk. Wide ribbons have become so indispensable that they claim special notice in an article on le mode. Tout le mode wear them ladies, girls, and little boys. They are made of an immense width; some for ladles' wear are nearly half a yard, those for children a quarter of a yard wide; not to mention the Italian scarf, which is Mill wider, but is made of an extremely soft silk. In several shaded colors, and is merely looped together without a bow. It is quite an art to lie the bows of these ribbon sashes, as the form is of more importance than one might suppose. They must no longer be tied in two flat bows as formerly; there must be four two upper bows like wings, and little boys wear them under their vests or paletots. However, It is not only for tashes tbat ribbon is required; we have it msed in the hair, for trimming dresses, aud sometimes just tied round the upper part of tbe aleeve, about hall-way between the elbow aud the shoulder.
