Amvrr to 1!ob a Ktahle. A few nights
since, (iconic Keyser, who lives in Soutliump
ten towiinhip. Hiicke county, met with a peri
lous adventure, narrowly escaping loving his
life. That nieht, intending to start to this city
very early, he laid down on a Felice instead of
j:oiiip to bed. When the clock struck twelve he
awoke, iind in about half an hour dressed nitn
Kit, liuhted a lantern, and went to the barn to
leed his horses. To his surprise he. found the
ftable door partly open, but supposed that be
had fi'nrotten to liiu'eu it in the evening. On
pushing it open wider. 60 that be could enter, a
shot wit fired at him by hoiuc one itisiJe, the
ball pte-winn thiough the door wiihin a few
inches ot Mr. Kejser, und on a level with hi
neck.
Startled by this sudden attack, Mr. Keypcr
stepped back a little, when the niau inside
rushed upon hnn and pushed him into a heap
of chad that lay near the door. Before
Mr. Keyscr could recover himself, the
man had made a tafe escape. On making nn
examination, Mr. Keyscr found that his assail
ant had harnessed up the very horse he had in
tended to drive to the city, aud was about ready
to leave the htable when interrupted. In ten
minutes moie the thief would piobably have
jrotten off with the horse and a vehicle. No
traces of the man by which he could be identi
fied were discovered afterwards the bullet
hole in the stable door being the only mark lett
behind him. Mr. Keyser heard a low whistle
on his way to the barn, but he thought it was
eome one going down the lane.
