GRAND POWWOW At the New Room of the Democratic Association of Pennsylvania I ALL THE BIRDS OUT IN FULL FEATHER. This association of the Unterrified took, this week, formal possession of their new Hall, and with their taking took the opportunity to ven tilate themselves and squelch the "nigger!" Although the building is to be used after the election for a Burnt Cork Opera Ilouse, still a little practising on the boards of some legiti mate jokes of that class was not reckoned pre mature. Two buildings have ben altered and thrown into one, as the two parties of "Coppers" and "Bread-and-butters" have been thrown into one, and, like the building in question, there is but one doorway to enter, and they will both use the same back alley gate for their exit. Files of the daily papers are kept in the rooms, we are told, and files of the "un washed" are kept out of the rooms, for this place is only intended for the rank in title, not in fact. At the ceremony of the opening on Thursday night, the Hall and speakers were filled to their utmost capacity ; indeed, we might say, to overflowing and especially was this so as regards the speakers. Mr. Souwester Megargee, chairman, handed the building over, figuratively speaking, to tlie Association. In receiving it, the President said it was the hap piest moment of his life. The Association originated under peculiar circumstances. Some years ago the State Central Committee was dead broke, but soon they were joined by the three B's. (A voice "What's them?") If I must speak plainly the Bread and Butter Brigade and then the Committee was in a way to get funds. The Chairman at that time called to his aid the GENTLEMEN WHO STOOD BY THE PARTY through good and evil report. Money was obtained, but the great difficulty was in the want of an organization. An organ was, how ever, purchased of a retired Italian, and the thing was set a-going. Peter, Peter, Pumpkin McCall, Esq., was sow introduced. He considered it a great pleasure to address his fellow-men upon the eve of a great battle, at this time, particularly a battle where nobody will get hurt. Next Tuesday will be a contest between the friends Of constitutional liberty and tho tavern keepers who reside near the polls; but, gen- tlemen, take my advice, and don't pay a oent more than five cents a glass for your lager. (Cheers, and cries of "We won't 1 we won't I") The speaker disoussed at some length the question involved in negro supremacy, and Bhowed conclusively that if the Republican party suooeeded, all of the unmarried Democrats must marry Mack people. (Immense cheering.) Gen tlemen, a fact like this calls for groans, not cheers. I tell you, if our enemies succeed, we must all have the negro for our hotel proprie tors, our church-wardens, and our opera singers. (Great cheering.) Gentlemen, facts like these are deplorable. (Cheers.) The oppressed whites of the South, now feel ing themselves unequal to the task, call for help from the North. If Congress has the rleht to force n egroes on us and our fami lies, the negroes have a right to force Congress on Well, gentlemen, I don't know what to gay; but the consequences will be awful I Cheers.) Mr. John C. Bullett was then intra duced, and was received with applause. He M 1, was clad to see bo many Democrats as were here to-night, preserved in Bafety out of the war; he could not tell where they kept v.auima i nast seven years. Where did yiOlUnV VM w w tliejgettovliea tlie Republican fovcr Bweri 4 THE DAI1A MVENING TELEGRAPH I'lULADELI'lHA, SATUliDAY, over tho land during the four years of des potic wart (A voice, In Fort Lafayette some of 'em I" Cheers and laughter.) Gentle men, this Is no laughing matter. We have heard of the time that tried men's sonla. We have passed snob, a time. Some of our states men have been tried that way (A voice, "Yes, and got out on bail." Laughter.) Gen tlemen, this is no laughing matter. The radicals have had everything their own way for some time past, but we'll show them. This Hall, he said, was to be the home of the Democrat ic party, and he would now issue the cards for the party, "At Home next Tuesday." (Cries of "That's so.") Nearly one-half of this country i3 under mili tary dictators, one of them (Pope) whose headquarters were always in the saddle (A voice, "His hind-quarters, yon mean;" laugh ter and cheers.) Gentlemen, this is no time to laugh. This Tope, he captured 40,000 men, and it was believed he did it just because thoy belonged to the Democratic party. Where are they now ? I am afraid we will never find them. (Cheers.) lie said this Democratic Club was created to copo with the League, and he hoped to see the time when they would have a brown stone front and eight billiard tables instead of four, as the League has. He believed the great Democratic party has as good billiard players in it as the League any day. Mr. Bullett said he was not a very sanguine man at any time, but he believed the Democratio party next Tuesday would -well, he would not say at present what he believed. (Applause.) Mr. Charles Outgersoll, a Philadelphia law yer of loDg standing, I ir':-',v' MM of very long standing, we might add, was next introduced. 1 He said that, for the last six years, he had been au attentive watcher of affairs, but would be a watcher no longer. lie now saw that things were all right. The Union League was trembling in its boots. They see in our beau tiful building here a rival to their brown stone and French roof. This is the first time for six years that he has seen them "down in the mouth." He hoped the rent for this building was secured; if not, that it be so before Tues day next. And he retired amid great applause. The Chairman said he would now read a regret from the Rev. Mr. Chambers, chaplain of the Club: Broad Street. Thursday. Oct. 3. GentlemeD: 1 will be unable to attend the dedication of your n-w house, which I sin cerely regret. A MaHonio supper in prospect requires uu or iny (mention mis evening, to scour up my new regalia tor that Important tveru Yours in the Democratio bonds, Jons'. This regret was received with creat ap plause. The District Attorney of Berts county being present, was then called upon. lie urged every one to go to the polls. In his county the Demo cratio party had always stood firm since the days of Jackson. Many of them were voting for the good old General yet, and he did not blame them. Since this Radicalism had over run the State, they might as well vote for General Jackson as anybody. He hoped they would secure the rent for this beautiful hall before next Tuesday, as his able colleague had suggested, as after elections of this kind there is so much confusion generally that nothing like collecting money can be done satisfac torily. He said he hailed from Berks county, where they never split tickets. After a col lection had been taken up, the meeting ad journed. The speakers, we understand, were all very well pleased with themselves. A motion was introduced into a secret session of the Committee to put "next Tuesday" off for about a week, but it was thought im practicable EXCURSIONS. m.xrrs WILMINGTON STEAMBOAT LJL-ZZZ I.1NK-i;1IANE OF houk, ktc. on hi. a blur Tl.'JCHDA Y, October lHt. ihu ttieumurs H.
