Ket stone Public School House. Yesterday
.. leiuoon, at five o'clock, the ceremonies con
nected with the laying of the corner-stone of
this new school house took place at Nineteenth
and Barker streets. Yesterday we gave the
dimensions and general construction of the
building, which will be of brownstone. The
occasion yesterday was one of a great deal of
interest, quite a number assembling to witness
the proceedings, among whom were the School
Board of the Ninth Suction, members of the
Board of Control, members of Councils, and
many other eminent citizens of our city, with a
great crowd of spectators. A commodious stand
was erected in the rear of the northeast corner
for the accommodation ot the speakers and
Directors, and at the hour appointed John
Farelra, Esq.. President of the Board of Direc
tors of the Ninth Section, placed the stone in
position. - -
Eloquent addresses were made by the Hon..
Norton McMichael, Edward bhippen,. Esq.,
Judge William L. Peirce, and Richard Ludlow,
Esq., alter which the invited guests partook of
a collation in a building adjacent to the grounds.
The leaden box depositea in the corner -stone
contained the lollowlng: ..;.
A copy of each of the daily city papers issued
yesterday: a copy of the Just annual report of
the School Board; a list containing the names of
the officers and teachers in the Ninth Section; a
year book of facts of Zane Street Grammar
Hcbool lor 1861 and 18G2, and a silver medal
l iving inscribed upon it the named of the otli

Police Affairs. Last evening Dr. Paul M.
brennan and two other men, named Francis
aid Owens, were before Alderman Beitler,
"i nrped with i)j?htlng in a bar-room in the
nt ahborhood of Eighth and Cheanut streets. It
appears that Francis and Owens met Dr. Bren
iii' .1 at tbe Continental Hotel, and after some
(o'.' vernation the tiio walked down to Eighth
snd Chesnut streets to take a drink. While in
the bar-room a difficulty occurred between
Brennan and Francis, and both parties were
pretty well disfigured about the face, the Doc
tor's cane taking a conspicuous part in the
Kelee. Francis, it Is alleged, interfered In the
fair and came in for his share of punishment.
The police mttde their appearance when the
Ight was at its height, and the entire party
lere conveyed to the Central Station, where,
sfter a hearlnir, Francis aud Owens were held
In $1000 bail to anHwer, and Brennan was held
in $500 bail to keep the pence. Each of the
contestants showed marks of rough usage,. Bren
Bin being severely cut in the forehead.
