At Fort Hayes on the 11th Inst, the water was twenty feet deep. J he oc cupants of the fort Lave been compelled to remove to the roofs of the buildings. Six soldiers and a citizen were drowned. Ueneral Ilanoook is engaged selecting another Bite for the fort on higher ground, ten miles from the TSTtbo ls'th Inst., while an emigrant train was encamped near Shawneetown, Johnson county, Kaunas, three young girls attached to it went a short distance to pick strawberries. A negro came upon one of them, and out-, raged heisin a shocking manner. The citinena arrested the negro, and intelligence has just Veen received that a mob burned him to death on Friday night. Grasshopper are doing great damage on loth sides of the Missouri river. ACROSS THE CONTINENT. Tbe Company now offer a limited amount of their FIRST MORTGAGE BONDS, Saving thirty years to run, and bearing; annual Inte rest, payable on the first days of JANUARY and JULY, in tbe City of New York, at tbe rate of SIX PER CENT. IN GOLD, ' AT " j Ninety Cents on the Dollar. This road wan completed from Omaha 303 miles west on tbe 1st ot January, 18U7, and Is fully equipped, aud trains are regularly running over Ik Tbe Company has now on hand sufficient irou, ties, etc. to finish the remaining portion to the eastern baso of tbe Rocky Mountains, 212 miles, which Is under contract to be done September 1 of this yur, and It Is expected that tbe entire road will be lu running order from Omaha to Its western connection with the Central Pacific,, now being iiH!ily built eastward from Sacramento, j Cal., during 1870. - . j WF.ANM OF TUB COMPANY. Estimating the distance to be built by the Union Pacific to be 15fi5 miles, the United Slates Govern ment Issues Its Six Per Cent. Thirty. Year Bonds to tbe Company as the road Is tlulshed, at the average rate of about (28,250 per mile, amounting to fit 208,000. The Company is also permitted to issue Its own First Mortgage Bonds to an equal amount, aod at tbe same time, which BY SPECIAL ACT OF CONG REsB ARB MAKE A FIRST MORTGAGE ON THE ENTIRE Xil NE, the Bonds of the United Stales being aultordt note to them, . Tbe Government makes a donation of 12.800 acres of land to tbe mile, amounting go,os2,ooo acres, estimated to be worth fju.oou.OuO, making the total resources, ex clusive of the capital, (118,416,000: but the full value or the lands cannot now be realised. Tbe authorized Capital Stock of the Company Is one hundred million dollars, of which five millions have already been paid in, and of which It Is not supposed that more than twenty-live millions at most will be required.- Tbe cost of tbe road Is estimated by competent engl. neers te be about one hundred million dollars, exclu sive of equipment. FBOMPECTH FOR IU7SINKS9. Tbe railroad connection between Omaha and the East is now complete, and the earnlugs of the Uniou Pacific pn tbe sections already finished for tbe month ot May were $261,782. These sectional earnings as tbe road progresses will much more than pay tbe interest n the Company's bonds, and tbe through business over tbe only line of railroad between tbe Atlantic and Pacific must be Immense. VALVE AND SECURITY OF TUK BOARS. The Company respectfully submit that the above statement of facts fully demonstrates the security of their Bonds, and as additional proof tbey would sug fjeat that tbe Bonds now offered are less than ten mil lion dollars on S17 miles of road, on which over twenty million dollar have already been expenned. On 830 miles of this road the bars are how running, and the remaining 187 miles are nearly completed. At tbe present rate ot premium on gold these Bunds pay an annual Interest on the present cost of NINE FEB CEMT., And It Is believed that on the completion of the road, like tbe Government Bonds, they will go above par. The Company Intend to sell but a limited amount at tke present low rale, and retulu the right to advance the price at tbelr option.
