Kikes, residing in Monie-oiuery avenue, near Germatitown avenue, feli out of a wagon in which she was playing, about two o'clock yes terday alternoon, and was seriously injured. She was taken borne. A very painful accident occurred to a little boynamed Moerrea, aged abouttwelveycars, who had one of his feet badly crushed by the wheels of a coal car, at Ninth an I Master streets. Mogrea and several other youths were on their way to fchool, and stopped to play. Mogrea, In attempting to get on one of the cars, slipped, and one ot his feet was caught by a wheel of the cur and seriously crushed. He was taken to his home. Fiheb. Last evening, smoke was seen isauinir from th window of a houe No. 1014 Filbert street. The attic window wa9 found rait-ed, and it is supposed that tbe house bad been entered for the purpose of robbing it, and the trunk set on tire so as to enable the thieves to carry oif the plunder during the alarm. It would be well for housekeepers to look to tbe fastenings of their garret windows and trap doors, as several robberies have receutly taken place, the thieves entering through the upper portion of the house. A stable in Wood street, below Twelfth, was slightly damaged by tire last evening. Assault and Highway Koubeky. At a late hour on Saturday night a man named John Branegan, residing at Twenty-flftli and Locust streets, was attacked by two men at Twenty tilth and Pine streets. One of them seized Bra negan in 6uch a way as to prevent him from using his aims, while the other rilled his pock ets. The robbers obtaining only Ave cents and a plug of tobacco, became incensed, and struck Mr. Branegan with a billy, breaking his iaw. The wounded man was received at the Pennsyl vania Hospital yesterday. Convictions During theMonthof February. In the Court of Quarter Passions during the February term there were forty eisrht convic tions of cases returned by David Beitler, Esq., Committing Magistrate at the Central Police Station. This number exceeds that of any former term. At . least one-half of tho cases returned to the Criminal Court during a term are those heaid before the above-named niaeis- ti ate, and in almost every iustuuee conviction surely follows Crew Saved. We have bad, for the past seven years, a very modest Institution, known as the "Wheatley Dramatic Association,"giving weekly perform ances. This association is composed of some of our best young men, and conducted in an able manner. Wheieas, A bill has been Introduced In the Slate Legislature, entitled an Act for the elec tion of Supervisors in certain Wards of the city of Philadelphia; And whereas, Tbe Bald bill, if passed, will give authority to said Supervisors contrary to and in coulllct with their duties ns prescribed by the Act of Consolidation, which vests all power required to govern the city In the Coun cils, such as levying taxes for all municipal purposes, and all lawa governing and concern ing the highways; And whereas. It is the duty of Councils as the guardians of the Interests of the city to make known the facts to the Legislature, and respect fully protest against the passuge of said law; therefore be it Resolved, Hy tho Select and Common Coun cils of the City of Philadelphia, That in the opinion of these Councils the passage of said act will be greatly detrimental to the interests of the entire city; that it will create another authority to levy taxes, which will destroy the uniformity now existing lu that respect; that it will enable the Wards specified In said act to take from the City Treusury more than ihelr just proportion for road purposes, and it will lelleve those Wards from paying their fair pro portion of the other expenses of the City Gov ernment.
