How Ha Lobt It One of onr officials who usually carries a three hundred and fifty dollar chronometer, lost it on Thursday. He was stand inr at Sixth andOhesnut streets, talking with a friend, when asked, "How la'.e la ltf" Turning to his watch-pocket, he perceived that It was empty, and remembered that be bad left it at home. "I have left my watch," said he, ''under my pillow, and It is the first time that 1 ever lorgot iu" The dav wore on. and the official in question re turned to his home. A line turkey had been left there, by a man in tbe garb of a huckster, at eleven o'clock in the morning, with directions thatdinner should be ready at three o'clock. His better half, aa he entered the house late In the afternoon, ex pressed regrets that he had been so belated, and gave utterance to apprehensions that the turkey he sent home had become spoiled by over-roasting. This led to Inquiry, resulting In a statement by the lady that at eieven o'clock that morning a man had delivered at the door tbe turkey then awaiting him, at the same time asking for the watch which the huckster bad been told to say would be found under tbe gentleman's pillow. Tbe watch was found there, and delivered to the man at the door without a question. The official was somewhat astounded at the development, bnt knew enough r,f ih world to understand that some sharper had overheard his remark that morning when asked the time of tbe day, and had immediately started for Ills home witn a view to securing iu An Isterebtiko Presentation Yesterday. rru.'i!.,i T,itriii nretiimted handsome gold medaU to Charles iWragh and Thomas Cun nlngiiam. members of the FranKlln Hose and Hteum Fire Kngiue Company, lor saving the Sag of the Leauue during Uie fire n Boniember, 18W1. In answer to a circular Issued by the committee, a mi in ber of practical machinists and engitieers submitted their views In regard to what la re quired in an ordinance designed to secure the proper inspection of steam boilers. Amon those who answered the circular was Mr. Unguis, who made several suggestions Iu regard to u modification of the ordinance now under consideration. One siiirgestlon was that the machinery should be subjected to inspection in order toascertaln if it was in proper proportion, and thus lead to tho protection of citizens. He laid great stress upon the necessity of having a proper safety valve and three wnter-gungo cocks ns tlie best protection; and ho deprecated the use of self-acting apparatus. After twenty years' experience, ho had never known a boiler to explode except from want of water or exces sive pressure. Avoid these nnd there Is safety, so for as safety en bo secured by ordinance.
