The builders are to receive $100,- ' 000 for the boat exclusive of the machinery, and arc to have the old boat in addition. This new vcsHd was to have been launched this mornin, and numerous guests had been invited to parti pate, but owing to an unexpected delay in its completion the ceremony ha been postponed until about half-past 10 o'clock next Saturday morning, from the foot ot utis street. The boat U 180 feet lone bv (10 foot. Arnr 4 hit puurds, 28 fc-et width of hulf, and 12 (Oct deep, lhe iron p. .iu,got the boat is mainly f tnii. . while the raiboard streak, next the keel is J inch, and 60 lect backward from the bow 1? plated double, with a thickness of 11 inehe. The frames are of anie iron 4 by 3 inches, with reversed bars 3 by 3 inches. The floor plates are 17 inches deep, with two bars of ani;le iiv n on the top of each floor; the frames are 18 uihvb uiikui,, Hiia io incne9 at the ends; the keelhons are boxes of Iron. The rudder is very strong, weighing three tons, and is protected ou the alter end by means of larae iron poMs joined witn. continuations to the keel. The beams are of yellow pine; the deckinaot 4-Inch white pine. The lnnde of the bow will be strengthened with iron girders and with heavy wooden timbers, independent of the iron breast hooks. The lion plates of the hull will be continued to the top of the wheel-house, while everything in the interior will be of iron. Four new boilers are to be added, but the engine of the old boat will be retained, while the finish of the decks Will be as before. , ItETisrao Tax Dcplicates. The Board of Revision closed the hearing of general ap peals from tax-payere yesterday, and will com mence at once to examine into special cases which have been brought to their notice during the past three weeks. The Board have afforded every facility to real-estate owners to ascertain the valuation of their property as returned by the Assessors; and since tney commenced their labors, those who have purchased property during the present year had the opportunity of having their own names placed upon the book9, and also tn having divisions of property made, and thereby save the duplicating of assessments, which frequently occurred under the old sys tem. The attention of the Board has also been directed to the assessment ot rural pro perty, which only pays two-thirds of the city rate; and a visit will be made to portions of such districts for the purpose of ascertaining whether the full city rate cannot be imposed upon iand now rated as rural. Bince consolida tion, when the rural rate wae fixed, the ad vantages of water, gas, and police have been extended to many portions that were deprived of those privileges at that time, and the Board now think that the owners ot such property should bear their full proportion of the city tax. Already over $300,00unas been added to por tions of the Twenty-second Ward, and it is thought that this sum will be largely increased. The Board have also directed a return of all ad ditions or improvements to property made this year, so as to place the same in the duplicate for 1807. 1 Proceedings of the Gas Investiga tion Committee. The Special Committee of Select Councils, appointed to investigate into the management ot the Philadelphia os works, jnet last evening in Select Council chamber, Colonel James Vage in the Ohnlr; Messrs. Bar Joiwy Wagner, and Hopkins present. Henry Buttry, William Summers, James Lynch, and Richard Slack were examined as witnesses. The evidence given before the Committee was in substance the same as that elicited at previous meetings. The only thing new was tke evidence of James Lynch, who, five years ago, had the contract for hauling coke from the Works. He testified that, of his own knowledge, he had known more coke to be put Into carts than what the purchaser's ticket called for. He further said he stood aside and saw his carls loaded up with more coke than war, called for by the ticket. He said after the caits entered the "Works they were under the charee of the coke boss, and it was his place to detect all faults. The Committee then adjourned until Friday night. Target Firing. The following members of the National (Juard have been awarded the gold and silver medals lor the best three shots, on Monday laBt, w hen the company paraded for target practice, by the Judges, Major Weaver and P. Another bearing took place yesterday afternoon, before United States Commissioner Smith, in the case of Edward Parr, who was charged witli manu facturing liquor without a license, at his resi dence, Twentieth and Federal streets. William A. Kneass, the Deputy Collector of the Second District, on being sworn, stated that he had visited the premises occupied by Mr. Parr, and had found there a still, containing singlings; he also saw there a quautity of liquor. The defendant, witness ; td, had "no license. Thomas McGonegal also visited tie house.and corroborated the testimony of the former wit ness. The accused was then held in $ 1000 bail to answer for the alleged offense. The Port of Philadelphia. A novel scene was witnessed last evening at the Second District Police BtHtion. Two prisoners were brought in, one a male in female altire, the other a female in male attire. The counterfeit woman was uu uuualry large, and the counterfeit man much below the ordinary size. The face of the former was decorated with a pair of whiskers and a moustache, and that of the latter had a mous tache traecd upon It by means of burnt cork.
