    LETTER FROM TAUIS.
lVISIKO TELKOnArn SPECIAL C01WWr-ONTESOE.
Paris, October 15.
The Empreii Carlotta.
The mental derangement of the Empress of
Mexico Is stifl the general topic of conversation
In the French capital.
We bavc received moro complete details ou
the Midden Insanity of the Belgian princess. Our
Roman correspondent writes ue as follows:
"Her Mexican Maesty is not so much to be
Warned as it would appear. Her obstinacy and
her most extraordinary conduct towards the
He!; Father must be attributed to a nervous
malady, from which the has been suffering for
some time past,
"We now hear In Romo, from those persons in
attendance 'upon the Empress, that her nervous
excitement has of late been such, that it has
been necessary to keep the strictest watch upon
her, for'fear of her committing some rah act.
Testerday morning she went to the Vatican,
without giving Antonelll iany previous notice,
its the Roman Court etiquette requires. IIo-
ever, his Holiness consented to receive her, not
Withstanding the irregularity of her conduct.
As soon as the young Empress was ushered into
the presence of the Pope. he threw herself at
his feet, and declared to him that she was the
victim of dlabolicnl pers'cutions 5 that her
enemies were desirous of putting an end to her
days; and that attempts ha J been made to poison
her at the Hotel do Rome, at which she was
then staying. She went on to assure the Holy
Father that she was afraid to touch food of any
kind. Pope Pius, with his usual gentleness, did
his utmost to console aud comfort the un
iortunate Prince's. lie ordered that a re
past should be prepared for her at the
Vatican, whero she spent the rest of the day.
'When night came efforts were made to per
suade her to return to the hotel, but to no pur
pose. Mie kept constantly Repeating that if bhc
Jeft the Vatican she would fall ajvictiin to assas
sins, and thut she only 1 elt afc in the presence
of the Pope. As her Majesty seemed determined
not to leave, the Pope ordered apartments to be
prepared tor her, and she has since then been
an inmate in the Vatican. She refuses to be
. attended by her ladies of honor, but is willing
to receive the attention of ladies entirely
strangers to her."
A further letter informs us that the Count de
Flandrcs, her brother, has arrived, and will re
conduct her to Mirainar as soon as the state of
.her health will permit.
The newt from Mexico is getting worse and
worse, nnd confirms what I have so often writ
ten, that we have in France never known the
truth respecting th nnfortunute expedition In
the country of the Aztecs.
Italy for the Italians.
The last Kaiserlich will soon have left Venice,
aid Venetin will be called upon to say whether
it is willing to receive Victor "Emanuel as its
king, in common with the rest of Italy.
The Italian Government had hardly received
the newB of the signature of peace, when it has
tened to communicate the intelligence by tele
gram to the municipalities of Venice, Verona
nnd Mantua, and the folio win? replies were sent
to the President of the Council of Ministers.
From Venice-" The Municipal Representation
thanks you for the immediate communication
f the good news. The City of the Doges for
Sets her griefs at seeing her long aspirations
accomplished ; and .at length free, she cries
Long live united Italy, the King, and his Gov
cruruent." Verona replies In these words: "We have re
ceived the news of the conclusion of peace, and
we respond with ioy-Long live united Kaly."
j.euers nave just reached us that Garibaldi
returns to the island ol Caprera, the state of his
health requiring extreme quiet. He has sent in
his resignation ot commander of the volunteers,
ivhich has been accepted by the King.
The Sicilian Insurrection.
The condition of Sicily appears to give rise to
fresh uneasiness. Tbe insurgent bands driven
irom Palermo have taken to the Interior, and
an animated discussion has arisen between
General Cadorna and the archbishop of that city.
In a letter written to that prelate, the General,
accuses the monks and priests, lind even nuns,
ot having had no hesitation in placing them
selves at the head of the rebels to excite them
either to rapine or pillage. He reproaches the
Archbishop with having done nothing to put a
atop to the excesses of these unworthy ministers
of the sanctuary, and aks how it happened that
he, whose mission U peace and alliance, did not
interfere amongst a populace intoxicated with
robbery and murder. Monslgnor Naselli, in his
reply, repclu the responsibility which it is
wished to place on the Sicilian clergy.
The Saxon Premier.
The desire of the Emperor of Austria to take
the late Saxon Premier into his service has
given great uiubraee nt the Prussian Court. Herr
vonlicuBt is the only diplomatist able to cope
with Von Bismark, and it is well known that he
Is the inveterate hater of the Hohenzellerns.
The Reorganization of the French Army,
The Government ot the Tuileries is now Much
occupied with the reorganization of the army.
It is the wish of the Emperor to be able to call
out one mill'on of men at a very short notice.
The matter will be discussed in the Legislative
Assembly.

Opening of the Italian Opera In Pari.
Nobody with any pretentions to fashion in
Paris can think of not being abonne to the
Italian Opera House. Tho reopening of the
Bulla Ventadour is always an event.
The impressario has, contrary to his custom
opened the season with his best singers, Tho
first evening he gave us tho Somnambula, with
Patti, and the second La Norma, with Mad'lle
Lagura. The spoiled child of the Salle Ven la
dour must have been rather surprised at the
not over-euthusiastlc reception she has met with
this year. However, the eujhanfress did her
utmost to deserve the plaudits of the audience.
She sings her finale,
THE DAILY EVENING TELEG B AraFHIL ADELPIIIA, TUESDAY,
"oon taimget"
with such prnce and such effect, font the
public at last gave her a salvo of applause, su h
as it was wont to do last yenr.
Signorins Adelina must, however, not trifle
w ith the public. For the last three years she
has been treating us to pretly much the same
kind of dishes, and it is high time that she
should change her repertoire, if she docs not
wish to tire the public, who have so often gone
the round of It Barbiere, Linda di Chamounix,
and Don Fafquale,
The bills already Inform us that the Ilispano
Amerlcan prima donna will, next week, attempt
something different from her general style, and
will perform the part of the young wile of the
'Medico CrabattinO," In the livly opera oi
Criapino e la Comare.
Oar Opera Comique has again taken up the
popular opera of I.e tanged1 Une Kit it dCEtc or,
a Midsummer MgltCa Dream, The charming
Mad'lle Cabel has again appeared before th!
Parisian public. Her voice Is as fresh as ever.
She has found an excellent auxiliary in the new
tenor, Lheric, who promises to be one of the
leading tenors of tbe day.
The pretty little theatre Les Bouffes Pari-
siens has been reopened under the !aJ.ef'
ship of William Ugalde, who for so many
years delighted the luibitucsa of the Opera
Comique in La Jrtt aux litses ana Le vata.
A new piece has been brought out at the Gym-
naBe, by the author of the well-known La Fa
milte Jlenoitun. It is called iV'os Bona Villa-
geois, and has been a great hit. Sardou, the
dramatic author, is decidedly a lucky fellow,
for this is hiseleveuth piece which has been
well received by the difficuli-to-pleose ond
fickle public of Palis,
