Several communications and petitions were presented and appropriately referied. On motion of Mr. Fox, the resolution of in struction to the Committee of the Girard Eitate was read. Mr. Pox said, for the purpose of having this matter settled in ouo way or another, I move its indefinite postponement. . , Mr. Harper repeated what he had said on the previous Thursday. . Mr. Pox replied, stating his reason for offer ingMhe resolution waj to elicit a dedmte and decisive action. The committee had examined . All the tacts ot the case thoroughly and closely during an investisaiion of nearly live hours, and came to tbe conclusion that their action in the case was for the very best interests ot the (.'Irani Estate. Mr. Batdaley My reasons for calling this resolution up was that we might have it detf nltely settled. 1 think it important that it should be settled one way or the other. This is my sole reason for calling it up, notwith standing whut the gentluman from the titghlh Ward baa said. It is our uuty tosettlo it. 1 disagree with the gentleman tioni the Eighth aliout thia bulldine. We have examined all the facta of the case tbo Committee have examined it thoroughly, and have discussed it. - We had all tbe facta connected with it brought before us without aayinganything against the parties or neighbors. Alter the doliberauon ot four or five hours we came to tbe conclusion that we considered it our duty to rent, the bii!dinar for a certain sum of money. It seems to me, when we put all the circumstances together, that there must be a, motive. I flunk tbe . interests of the estate would be better protected by allowing the present oc cupant of the building to remain. Mr. 8impson. boinn a member of the Joint committee, 1 feel that my position there requires, probably, some little vindication. I voted with tbe maiorlly of that committee on this motion, and I would here state that in all the com nlt teea I have ever been on in the cuy ol Philadel phia, I never saw one tbat attended to its duties more faithfully.
