At the adjourned nineting of the Convention, hele at 3 1'. M. jester Jay, the loilowing oilicers were elected: President John P. Verree. Viee-FrettdenU Kiastus Poulson and James C. Adams; Secretaries, William R. Leeds, liuac McBnde, James Freeborn, and Cuailes M. Car penter; Mes.-Jeimer Jaime II. Bradley; Door keepers J. L. Curry, T. B. Robinson, John Ret-d, W. Nichols, J. S. MeBride. Upon takintr the chair, Mr. Verree made the following remarks: Gentlemen ot the Convention: I thank you sincerely lor the honor you have coulerred upon me by my election as yo lr presiding otlicer. Did IpoBcess the qualifications to disebitree the duties oi the position, the honor would then be more than I deserve, but possessing no such qualifica tions, it is only the eicatcr, and I trust ihut an earnest and honest desire to discharge the duties will render me worthy of your confidence. We have met in convention for the purpose of nominating candidates to be supported by every loyal voter of tins city, and I nope the selections may be such as to deserve the confi dence ol the community, and receive, as I am satisfied tney will, a decided majority on the second Tuesday in October next. 1'he country has during the last sj.x years passed through a period ot great anxiety and stulering, and we have preserved this Union from the designs of the Rebel connpirators and the Copperhead sym pathizers. We naturally expectea that the spirit of rebellion would have been crushed forever, and this glorious Union become arain a consolidated aud united republic. I greatly mistake the signs of the times if we will not have to contend auainst another conspiracy, led and sustained, not by Jetlerson Davis the inmate ot Fortress Monroe, but by that arch traitor and apostate, Andicw Johnson, sup ported by that faithless and truckling dema gogue William H. Seward. Whatever may bo the future trials God may inflict upon the people, I entreat of you never to falter for one moment in the maintenance of your principles. We have amongst us to day many of the noble veterans to whom we aie iudebted tor the micccsb of our cause and the perpetuity of our Union. To them we con fidently look in the future as we did in the past. I hope thai in the selections of candidate by this Convention, we will show by our actions our appreciation of tbe services ot the brave Boys in Blue, and nominate the candidates they desire lor at lpasttA-oot the positions on our ticket. I again thank, you lor this expression ot your confidence. The Committee on Contested Seats not being Tcady to report, the Convention adjourned, to assemble at 5 o'clock. Soon after reassembling, the Committee on Contested Seats made a report, to which there -was no objection.
