indoor wear, lotur skirts always will be worn.
J lift at present there are three luvoriru colors in
dress silki", and thefe ure pale bine, mauve, and
liirlit pieeii. Hilksot thoe colore are penerally
heavily embioldpred with white, or withdillcreiit
shades ot tho Hume color aa the dress; aud the
cllert in rich almoet bPtond compivrison.
The onibreidcty describes scollops: the hnt
torn of the skirt, which simulate the petticoat,
js entirely covered with either star, b'.'es,
cTcuceiit'., ordoU ot white silk, and (tie ei;re
ot the skirt is worked in imitation of iruipuro
insertion. The embroidery then ascends the
skirt a a tunic, and at ea:h sid of the front
breadth there is a sash end embroidered and
then limped with white beads. The bodices of
these dresses are embroidered en plastron; the
sleeves are very lone and very narrow, and are
worked en revers. This rich white, embroidery
produces the most original ellect on oluck silk
dresses. The siunc scollop;ntr design produced
in black, on eros trruins ol h (lurk shade, is
likewise seen, but i:i not so elegant or drcsy
looking on the white silk embroidery or the
liphter silks.
Such robes are, of conwe, intended for very
dressy occasions; itud therefore the skirts are
made unusually long and full, as nothing has a
worse ellect than what dressmakers leriu a
'mean scrimp skirt." Abroad the fashion of
tyiiifr skirts at the back with 6ahes lu obtain
ing ground, and us the custom increases it will,
no doubt, be taken Into favorable consideration
by our own modistes. The sash ends are no
longer plain, but are heavily embroidered with
silk or small beads, or trimmed with cherry or
jiuipure silk. A new article called Egyptian
cloth is just coming into vogue. It is manu
factured principally of silk, and is much
admired. The lollowinr; describe a very ele
gant toilet of this new material, made of white
Egjpnan clo h: The petticoat was trimmed
with three rouleaux of violet silk, with a small
quilliuz below 10 match; the skirt was plum,
and was tied at tho buck, the two ends oi the
sat-h hem" fringed with violet silk; the small
square paletot wns Trimmed with rouleaux to
match those on the petticoat, and it had a
violet feather Iriuqe all round !t. This Ejyp.
tian cloth is much used lor sea side dresses,
where the entire toilet matches petiicoat,
paletot, and dress being cut Jtrom the same
piece. The buttons on the paletot are either
silver or niotheroi-pearl, quite plain, without
either hole or ornament in the centre.
Every excess of ex.ravacauce appears to be
indulged in this season. This time last summer
it was thought somewhat extravairaut when
fietticoats ot heavily trimmed while alpaca
ustre became so much the rage; but that was
child's play in comparison with the full-blown
extravagance ot the present time. For no
nothing less than petticoat made of while rjroa
de A'apfcs will suit the fastidious tastes of our
fashionable belles. Thess superb skirts are
ornamented with a baud of Oriental embroidery
worked in silk of divers hues. This embroidery
reproduces palm-, such as we see on Indian
shawls. These white silk petticoats, with bands
of Orient al embrenJery, are oiten made tor a
special toilette, but they can be worn under any
dress, provided it be composed of rich or elegant
materials. The Empress of the French and the
Princess Metternich' were the first to wear these
petticoats under dresses embroidered in the same
style.
The effect is superb, as may easily be under
stood Irom the following description: A skirt
of Mexican blue gros de Maples, festooned all
all round bv means ot long strap., which com
mence at the waist, and were covered with
Oriental embroidery, in which red and yellow
predominated; a small caaquc of the new
lorui, without any barque in trout, but opening
over a white embroidered gros grain waistcoat,
with a sjrt of Alontespan oasque at the back,
which basque was formed with two wide ilat
plaits. The basque was rounded at the sides,
and was covered with embroidery, as were also
the bodice and trio sleeve. .
White silk petticoats are also embroidered
"with black purse silk, and are trimmed with
black chenille fringe. As plain white silk petti
coats have been very general since the com
mencement of the season, many ladies who ure
economically inclined are now lrpshening them
up by the addition of either black chenille
innge or colored chenille tipped with crystal
drops. These petticoats are not always very
costly, fcr they can be made ot slips which have
been used under ball dresses; the train (indis
pensable with an evening toilette) is cut away,
aLd the upper part remains usually very freoli.
The latest news of bonnets Is that square fronts
liave been worn; whether they will become
general remains to be seen. The new etvle is
called the "Neapolitan." They are considered
to be more becoming than the shape known as
"Lamballe," and although they are notiu reality
bonnets, any more than, others ot the charming
and diminutive bead-dresses which are now
classed under that bead, they do duty for them
very well. At a recent celebrated marriage the
bride herself wore a bonnet of this description;
it was made of white tulle, and was entirely
covered with small white harebells, with very
long crystal pistils. The front was bordered with
one row of old English point lace, headed with
a narrow crystal fringe; inside there was a ban
deau of white harebells, with the long crystal
Eistils which tell on the bride's beautitnl block
air. The strings were of narrow white ribbon,
edged with white lace, and were tied under the
chignon.
The bride's toilette consisted of a pearl grey
pros grain dress, so pale that it was almost white.
The skirt was cut with au Immensely long train,
and was trimmed round the edge with a white
silk ruche, headed with a magnificent flounce of
old point lace sewn on plain, with another silk
ruche at the top of it. This trimming was car
ried up the troni breadih of the skirt. The
bodice was nlain and had a penlum bordered
with a white silk ruche and edged with old point
lace, likewise sewn on without fulness. Above
the bodice there was a Maiie-Antoinette mantle,
made entirely of point lace, and fastened on the
chest with a diamond brooch.
Summer dresses, made low in the bodice, are
frequently ornamented with laces or brettellea
of lace, which have always a good effect, except
on very stout figures. White continues to be
tb lavorite morning and evening color, and no
doubt it will still hold sway during the remain
tier of the warm weather.

Tbe irrave of General McPheron, on of the
nobleut of Ohio's Boua, remains unmarked by
even the rudest stone. A year or two apro there
was a movement on the part of tbe olticers of
tbe Array of the Tennessee to secure the requiHiie
funds to procure a suitable monument to the
metr-ory of this departed hero. Some Stf.UOO
-were raised lor that object. Pelore anything
lurther was done, however, a dlscattsion arose
9 to tho propriety of removing bis remains to
West Point, and erectluc a monument there.
So the crave seems to remain unhouornd, and
no information Is (riven as to what became of
the $0,000 bubf cribed tor the monument.
