The witness staced that he would rather have Mr. John Roberts examined in reterence to the leakace. Mr. Roberts hal inlormed witness that 50.000 was lost last year through defective retorts, which were f-iruis-hed by a- contract made in 1864. The retorts were made ot bad iron, and the contractor was ruined in replacing those burned out. Colonel Pasre read a letter from the Committee of Common Council appointed to examiue into the all airs of the G-is Works, proposing to unite with this Committee. The meeting was called for the purpose of recclvinp he report of the Citizens' Committee on the Improvement of Broad Street. Thiy reported First. That the lollowfn portions of Broai fttcct, from curb to curb, can at this tl.m be appropriated by Councils for the use and pur poses of a public drive, carriage way, oraveime, viz: Mom the Delaware river, at League Island, northwardly to Washington (late Prune) street, and iiom Willow street northwardly to Fisher's lane tne intervening space, or from Wanhiugton street to Willow street being exempt Irom the provisions ol the act of As cembly for three years. There has been, he said, a disease among some ot the cattle in New Cas tie, Del., not peculiar to this country.
