The workmen, in making excavations yesterday for the loundauons of the new marble building on Wamut street, below Fifth came across an old sower, built on tho bed of the main branch ef Dock oieek. This branea of Dock creek commenced near the Guard Bank, on t hird ttreet, and crossed Fourth street aud Harmony court and Walnut street at the point indicated by the culvert rcierred to. A Probable Case of Homicide by Boys. Two young lads were arres ed on lhureday evening, lor participating in a riot at Seventh and Sylvester stitets, and were committed by Alderman Lutz to await the result ot injuries iuflioied upon an unoffending boy, who, wbiie passing, was assaulted by their gang, struck upon ttip nead with a stone thrown so severely that i is fkull was fractured, and his recovery Is very doubtiul. These unlawful gatherings should be Qrmiy repressed, and such punishment inflicted upon the oifendinp lads that parents may be led to take active measures to pre vent their engagement theiein. Sad Occurrence. On Thursday night, a lad, son of George Shearer, residing at No. 628 Wharton Btreet, received a compound fracture of the skull, itelng struck with a stouo which was thrown by another lad. The fracture was a very bad one, the stone crushing the bone near tbe temple; yet Dr. (smiley petloimed successiolly tbe difficult operation ot trepanning. Tbe stone was thrown by one oi a gangot boys, lrom twelve to fifteen years old, and two of them, named James sterling and Edward Thome, were arretted and held by Alderman Lutz to await the reuit ot the injuries.
