Vice-President Rowland, occupied the chair. The Hoard ot Managers Bubmitted their nineteenth annual report ot the operations at the House ol Industry lor the year ending March 31, lsG(i. We give the lollovvintj important extracts from it: The number of persons received as inmates during.the past w inter has averaged OOmonthly. They receive board and lodging, and as often as possible assisted in gettme situations. No in toxicated poisons are admitted. About one third ot the number received were women. Some of those, received were discharged from prisons. As usual, a large amount of transient aid is given at the door to ninny who do not be come inmates. llreakt'ast ot bread and coffee ,1 clothing, etc., are given, of which it U dilticult to keep an exact account. Aji auc tion sale ol condemned tools, hardware, planing machines, hawsers, lamps, paints, etc. etc., took place at. the Navy Yard yesterday, under the supervision of Licutcu ani-Coinma'nder Ed ward Hooker, United Staff s Naval Storekeeper. The articles were sold for the Bureaus ot Equipments and lleomiting, Steam Engineering, Contrac tion and Yards and Docks, nnd wrere divided into thirty-six lots, all of which realized fair trices. The monitor Miantonomnh was ordered to proceed to an anchorage off the Navy Yard, last evening, and is very probably at anchor, there this morning. The officers ot both vessels state that on the trip lrom Fortress Monroe the Miattlonomah outsailed her convoy, the JJc Sotc, considerably, and proved herselt to be a most excellent seagoing vessel, Croat activity is manitesleJ in overhauling and fitting out for service a nnmber of vessels laid up at the Yard. The Lackawanna is nearly ready, and it Ls said tnat she will proceed to sea In a tew weeks. The 1'ensacola is to bo tilted out as rapidly as possible as a flagship, but her destination is as yet unknown, and several other vessels are being pushed forward with rapidity. The gunboat ldtiho proceeded dow n to the lower bay, and was engaged there all day yesterday in trying her machinery. It is said that it works well, and that she will attain a high rate of Epei d. Lister, whoso residence is on Fourth street, above German, went, in company wittt a female acquaintance, yesterday alternoon. to thP rooms ot Mr. Slack, dentist, to havo teeth extracted, being delicate, and fearful that she would sufler much lrom the operation, she requested Mr. Slack to administer chloro form, which he did, in a quantity, as bethought, suited to the physical condition of the lady. He was proceouiug to extract the teeth, when the patient was observed to bo in spasms. Au effort was at once made to restore h"r to con sciousness, but though all proper means were used, it was unsuccessful, aul she died in a few minutes. The Coroner was summoned to hold an inquest on the body, and, after making tao necessary preparations, postponed the investiga tion until to-day, Mrs. Luter was thirty-eight years old. The testimony was to the effect that the tire when first seen was coming lrom the store ot the defendant,, uud that alter it hud been extinguished not a vestige of stock could be found, except a paper of tobacco; that Mr. Plate first stated his loss to be $1300 to the Secretary ot the Kensington Insurance Com pany, and alterwords presented a written state ment, in which the loss in the aggregate amounted to $013'1 5. It was further testified to that in a bill of goods made out by a dealer in cigars and tobacco, of whom tho accused for merly made his purchases, the date of one pur chase was altered from October to March, at his request. To the ofiiccr acting in place of Fire Marshal Blackburn he stated that ho went home on the night ot the fire at eleven o'clock, but a witness testified that he was in a lager beer shop in tne neighborhood of the store till alter twelve o'clock, aud until within a ew minutes of the breaking out of the tire. The dwelling part of the house was occupied by Adolph Indig, clothier, who also occupied the store of Xo. 312. and his family made a narrow escape. Seven men were anested od Sunday upon the charge of rioting. It appears that a number of fire companies were returning from a false alarm, in the southeast erly part of the city, at an early hour on Sunday morning. On reaching the corner of Second and Iieed streets a Lumber of 'men, who are said to be adherents of the Weccucoe Eugino, Shllller and Niagara Hose Companies, got Into a row. A running fight was kept np along Second street: bricks and other missiles were used. At Queen street the Second Distil ct Police interfered, and arrested seven of the alleged iloters. They were held in the sum ot one thousand dollars each to answer by Alder man Tittermary. HIGHWAY RonBKKY. Two men 'were arraigned yesterday morning upon the charge of having assaulted and robbed Thomas P.urke, at an early hour on Sunday morning, near Sixth and Shippen streets, but were discharged for want of testimony to connect the.iu with the cllense. Child Strangled. The Coroner held an inquest yesterday on the body ol James Nugent, 13 years' old, who, while playing wittt a button, got it into his throat and was strangled.
