.THE DAILY EVENING TELEGRAPH. PHILADELPHIA, FRIDAY, MARCH, 30, i860. TKE CAMPAIGN IN CONNECTICUT. letter from P. T. Rnrnam. To the Editor of Ike Aeto York Tribune, Sir: I am no politician aud never dcsiim to bo, nut I am loval to mv country and her ploriou inbtituttonsj hence f work zealously for the Caufte Ot liberty and ennui rlchis. and pnnqiv quently I detest t.'ensou tn every cuie. The I i;oppeth'al'pnpcr8 ot this State have published, and the New York Kxpreta of thl evening hai copied, a statement that I have expressed doubts of tho success of the Union Repub lican ticket in Connecticut on Monday next. This lis marly false I Neither the Union narty In this State nor myself have for a moment donbted that General Ilawley will bo tri umphantly elected Governor of Connecticut, end that the lojal party will carry the State as effectually as U hfls done ever since the Copperhead lenders Tom Seymour, Toucev, Eaton & Company denounced President Lin coln forcalliug out volunteers to suppress the Rebellion, discouraged enlistments, declared the war a failure, rejoiced over Itobel victories, and endeavored to prevent our soldiers from voiin. These leaders and ihcir party are as rnnk Seees alonists to-day as Jefl. Davis ever was, and they cannot hoodwink the loyal voters of Connecti cut. I have ust been assured by one of the Union Ptate Committee that, after carefully can Tapsing the State, they have every reason to be lieve that tho Union State ticket will be elected by a majority of several thousand, and that tho Legislature will bo largely Unlou. The Copper heads are workintrly desperately, lying prodi giously, and planning cunningly to cheat us by fraudulent rotes; but the "old earpiuf is well known hereabouts, and is sharply watched. All that the Union p.iriy has to do is to turn out and vote to a man, "rain or shine," and the Cop pers will receive a second New Hampshire tbra taiiiR. Truly jour?, r. T. Babncm. ; Bridgeport, Conn., March 29, 18C6. The Bond Bobbery In Exchange Placet .New York ARBKST OF ONE OF THE 8U1TOSED BOBBERS WITH SliVtHAL OF TUE LUND3 IN OIS POSSESSION. Intelligence has been received to tho effect that a ptrson has bi'en arrested on the railway cars, within ten milca of Boston, by Detective Officers Kose and Dunshca, who are attached to Marshal Murray's oflice, and L. V. Westcott, who is connected with the secret service of the Treasury Department. The arrested party was searched, and upon his person several of the stolen bonds were found, lie was conveyed to Newburyport. and on his arrival at that place there were prelerred against him two charges of robbery, alleged to have been committed in Massachusetts, upon which bo was taken into custody. The prevailing opinion in the Mar shal's office is that the police will be able to get at the principal urtenders in the case; at present they have pot a clue to circumstances that may unravel the whole of this gigantic robbery. N, Y. Herald. The Agassiz Expedition in Brazil. The Boston Transcript publishes, several let ters relating to the Brazilian expedition of Professor Agassiz. Among them is a note from Agassiz to Governor Andrew, intro ducing M. Azambuju, the Brazilian minister, and adding: "Tho Emperor has overwhelmed me with atten tions and given me the most substantial assistance In the wav ot a steamer piaco i ac my dispoal upon the Amazon; bo you see iliat the liberality of Mr. Thayer has airoady produced more results than any of us could have expected, 1 only hope that, now that the war is over, the means of the museum may be so eniaraed as to make t bat institution the mjst important id existence within as snort a period as possible. We have vindicated our colitioal inntl iutious, let us now place our social condition and our means of intellectual and moral improvements far above those 01 other nations. "It. AoAssia.'" A letter from one of Aeasslz's assistants con-: tains the following interesting information: "During throo days we spent at the Lake Hyann- mrr we cangnt seventy-six ainerent specioj, most ot them new. The most important was a new genus ot the Chromidet, with a tail ending in the shape of a lance, which Professor Agassiz called after Dr. Cou tinbo. We were accompanied tiv the President of the I'rQviDce, who afforded us all conveniences by his secretary, and othor jreuticmea. "Our collection is at tne present time seven hun dred and seventy-six specie, ot whloa six hundred and flay are new. Professor Airassic said before en tering the Amazouas, he would be tatistlod it he could obtain two hundred and fifty specie. The result, as you perceive, Is beyond all expectation. The Professor calls it a true mve ation tor ecienoe. "Toe species of Para are entirely dlstinot from those of Tajaparu ; the lat er from tliose of tiupura, these from those of Monte-AUottre, and so on even between neighboring places the differ ence is great. . "Besides, the Amazonas contain a large num ber ot provinces inhabited by distiuot speoles. The disoovery of this important tact opens a new honzon to soientiiio investigations, and is the safest basis in the study ot the distribution of tne species. "Ibis great principle being established, the number of the icothyological provinces remains to be known, and the extcntdp- of their limits as well as tne causes of their a.tiurence. These Ques tions require much labor and study, but their resn't must he extraordinary, and perhaps the most interesting in the study ot nature." Another letter, dated November 25, says that the number of new tisb.es found is eleven hun dred and sixty-three. Earthquake at Sea. Captain H. G. Morse, of ship Syren, of Boston, in a letter to nis owners, savs: "Just to the windward of the Friendly Islands (South Pacific Ocean) was experienced a severe shock of an earthquake, which shook the ship from stem to stern, so much that it was almost impossible to stand on." The Syren was nn hprnassace from Baker's Island to Liverpool and the earthquake must have taken place about the middle ot jsovemoer, isoa. AMUSEMENTS.
