The flafts on the Italian vessels in port yesterday were ut hall'-niat, h& a token ot respect to theiaernorvof the late Prince Ciiacomo, son of Victor Euiunuel. fc'mp Building on the Dklaware. The ho to iron monitor Tunis, that alier ieing ondi tuned (if uiiHcaworthy has been converted at the jard ol Messr". Cranip & Sons Into ono ot the very best of the monitor fleet, lies at the dock adjoining the urd of the tlm. Yesterday they limnched a Pide wheel iron foA-bo.it, tliut was built In their, upptr yard. It is a remark able lact that the ked of that vessel was only laid on the second day of January, the wholo wiik belriff done in a period of about six weeks. Yv'hcn her keel was laid the iron frame hud not utbeen rolled. The plate wic bent in a fur nace, pronounced the very beet ot the klad known in the country, creeled iu the yard, axl Tiovt one ol its ermar.ent appiirtemim'-os. ready )er nil ititurc operations in iron ship buildinir. The tow boat iu question Is Ki5 tent long. 25 feet beam, 60 feet over v.ll. Kxcepting her giuirds and the deck houses there is no ood work about her. She is owned by tlio Me&rs. S. .t J. W. Fluiii'cnn. and is iutuuded for heavy towdug beiween the Schuylkill auditor dentown. The launch yesterday drew a ero.vd ot people. At first she reiuseit to start from tse steeks, the talh-w on the whvs hnmi2 become chilled. Mr. (.'ramp, Sr., hailed a parsing tug to eeme aud give a pull at her boas. The tug backed up, when a stentorian voice fro:n the new crnlt shouted "Clear out with that tug, net her away." Down came the tow boat from the ways, without further coaxing, splas'iiin into the t'treaui, and sending a cloud of spray oyer tne spectators upon the dock. The us, wiib. a prodigious snort, started .oil", aud the big toy boat i list cleared her uteru as she shot exult inulv into midstream. The work of buildinsr this boat In a soace f time to idiort is unprecedented. It could be. per formed only in a ship-yard possessing the most enure facilities. It may be further interesting to shippers everywhere to know that one of I he finest marine railways in tlio country will be completed nt the yard of Messrs. Cramp .V Son. In this respect alone has our port been deficient. We baie had plenty of facilities for taking out ol the w ater vessels' of ordinary si.e, but larre hipn were lound difficult to handle. This Dew railv.ay will aliord largely increased facilities lor repairing ehiD. . Coming down tho river front to IlammUt's screw dock, we counted nine other vessels upon tho stocks, thotteh the present L? a 6cason ot the year when shipbuilding is at a compara tive stand still. At llammitt a dock, yesterday morning, was hauled up for extensive repaiis the three-masted schooner Georqe T. 'lliorn, built by John T. Hainmitt, sold to the Government, aud repurchased by Mr. Titus aud others. Outside the dock, waiting her turn to receive atteution, i the large brig Anna Wellington, owned by Messrs. Dallctt & Son. She now floats English colors, nnd was last from Dominique. Messrs. Dallctt lost two very tine vessels by privateers at ilio beginning of the war. The' barque lio icena, one of the tinest sailing vessels ntioat, was one ot them, the Joseph Maxwell was the other. The Anna Wellington was therefore put under British colors, which probably alone saved her from sharing their fate. In Southwark, at the yari of Mr. John W. Lynn, is a beautiful steamship tor the New York and Boston lint rapidly approaching completion. Mr. Lynn ha ample orders ahead, and the c-'tublishuaent gives employment to a large num ber of operatives. Take it altogether, and the ship-building in terest of this port is as active as can be ex pected at this season ol the year. Far ontdoor werk such weather as we had during February was anything but conducive. People who are disposed to depreciate the work of Philadelphia ship builders can only do so by forgetting" the Ironsides, the Chattanooga, and Yazoo, built by Cramp & Sous, and the fleet of steamships for the mercantile marine, the pilot boats, and the tteam revenue cutter constructed by Mr. Lynn.
